Tyler nodded, taking a sip from his drink to delay his need to reply. It still stung every time he heard Josh say that their home was never enough for him, because by extension, he really meant that Tyler wasn’t enough. Or at least, that’s what Tyler had always read the situation as.
He decided not to reply directly, instead he changed the topic of conversation. “Is your family okay?”
“Yeah, you know how they are. My mom worries, says I don’t call enough. I think everyone else is just happy that I’m happy, y’know?”
“And are you?”
“Am I what?”
“Happy.”

Josh turned to the source of the voice, ready to tell them to go bother someone else, but his eyes widened at the sight in front of him instead. The man there, wearing an oversized blue coat, had a halo. Which could’ve only meant one thing.
“I’m Tyler,” the angel said. A cloud of smoke came with his voice. “I’m here to save your life.”
Josh's life sucks to the point where he wants to die. Then, Josh gets assigned a guardian angel named Tyler. Then, Josh's life sucks and he wants to die even more. Tyler is kind of rude, he chainsmokes, he listens to Eminem, and he makes Josh drink orange juice. Over the course of a week though, they become closer... like, really close. Like, 'I'm going to spit in your mouth' close. The only question remaining, then, becomes: What the hell is Josh going to do when Tyler leaves?
