Will’s voice is panicked and Mike looks at him, as he wants nothing more than to take his hand into his own and brush their fingers together. He almost does it, actually.
Almost, because Will’s fast words outrun him, getting right through Mike’s skin and breaking his heart, taking his soulmark with them.
“You’re the heart, Mike! You’re the heart!”
Mike doesn’t know what’s faster - the tears coming up to his eyes or the ache flooding his veins. He feels an excruciating pain in his right arm, something very close to being burnt alive, as he realises that his words have turned black.
Mike is fourteen years old, when he stops hoping for his soulmate to love him back.

Attend his friends' parties, maintain small talk, get through the day — and hopefully his friends won't realize how messed up he really is.
Everyone is out-pacing him. While he's barely getting out of bed in the morning, his friends are making waves, changing lives, getting engaged.
He can't even get his girlfriend to text him back.
So, sure. Maybe he's not in the best head space right now — but 'suicidal'? Ladybug's certainly just reading too deeply into things. But if her concern for Chat Noir's mental state is enough to get her reaching out, well, he won't turn down the opportunity to chat with a friend. He blinks. Then blinks again, registers the words, and flinches a step back. The heel of his shoe hits the locker behind him.
“I— Do I what?” Will sputters.
“Do you want a kiss?” He repeats, like that’s a normal thing to say to your best friend who is a boy.
Again, “What?”
Mike raises a closed fist up to Will’s face, so close that his eyes cross slightly to focus on it. Slowly, like he’s purposefully dragging this on, Mike unfurls his fingers. There, in the center of his palm, sits a small, silver-foil wrapped chocolate.What the hell.
; It’s Valentine’s Day. Will is going to shoot himself soon, seriously. It’d be easier than trying to understand why Michael Wheeler is acting like that.
