Summary
Following a horrific tragedy striking the Wheeler family, they're forced to move to cozy Hawkins, Indiana. Which makes Mike Wheeler the new kid in town, completely against his will, and he hates it.
Even in a fresh new high school, he's still the freak. Despite being navigated around by his new friends Dustin Henderson and Lucas Sinclair, he can't help but feel like an anomaly. Maybe talking to a pretty girl like Jane Hopper would make him feel more... normal.
But one high school party later, he ends up in a thunderstorm with a pathetic wish. And with that, the entire trajectory of his life is thrown into chaos.

He was staring at the sea of clothes, trying to figure out which fish would be the one he’d pull out the water, skin it off it’s bones and have as a sacrifice to his first ever party.

After being invited to Stacy's party, Mike and the rest of the group decide to give it a shot and experience the 'normal teenage experience' they've finally gotten the opportunity to try. That smile of his was as warm as the California sun, and for the first time in his life, Jonathan didn't felt like being judged. Because here, they aren't "the freak family". Here, the Byers are just a family, like any other.
Perhaps Jonathan's life is not like the recently burn down Starcourt Mall. Maybe it's more like a Phoenix—the old life burns down, and from its ashes, a new life begins.
