Summary
Part of this was written directly after reading Lassiter (2023). The majority was written and edited after reading The Beloved (2024). I was left confused about the dynamics in the future. All I want is an explanation for the strange behaviors of Beth, LW, the King, and the Brothers. Why is son and mother so estranged? Why did the King seem to mostly ignore his only son and accept this broken situation so easily? Why are the Brothers, life-long friends and family members themselves, so willing to accept such fractured family dynamics without advice or intervention? Why did we not see any strong emotional reactions to the return of The Blind King?
This is my response as I try to provide character-accurate possibilities and explanations. I wanted this posted before the release of Lover Forbidden (2025).
Also, I just adore the idea of Rhampage and wanted an excuse to write about him before we are firmly introduced to his adult-self.

He knew he was acting crazy. He could feel it in the way he stretched his smile too wide, too manic. He could see it in the way Pomni’s eyes widened in fear ever so slightly, but her brows furrowed in concern. She wasn’t afraid of him, at least, it didn’t look like that. Pomni had a somewhat of a neutral expression on her face, but it also looked like she was calculating. Planning her next move. If there was something Jax knew about her, it was that once she had her mind set on something, she would not let it go.
And the worst part? It wasn’t until he turned around, his back facing Pomni, that he realized what he had just done. He did something he could never go back to. He’s officially burned the last bridge that could have ever led to a friendship. There was no going back, no matter how much he wanted to. The voice in him screamed, begging Jax to take everything back, to apologize and pretend that this was just a silly little prank. It took everything in him to not listen.
