It doesn’t matter, really, if Stanley is gay. Xeno doesn’t give a shit if he is. Romance is a distraction people invent when they don’t have anything better to do.
But Stan is his. That’s just a fact.
Stanley follows him around like gravity, orbiting every idea and plan Xeno comes up with. He’s taken the fall for Xeno’s experiments in the past, helps him skirt the law to get what he needs. He writes from Afghanistan asking about Xeno’s research. He listens to Xeno’s angry rants when people get on his nerves. He holds all of Xeno’s past. If Xeno ever bothers to build a future that involves other people, Stanley will probably be in it too.

He stared at the view through the huge window. He drew his hand to the glass and slid a palm to reach out for the blue planet.
The heaviness inside him didn’t stem from the anxiety brought by the possibility of fighting why-man, nor was it because of the uncertainty of not being able to go back home.
It was far simpler, far more stupid than that.
Young Xeno’s voice reverberated in his ears:
“Isn’t it kind of ironic how humanity only started treasuring the Earth more after this photograph came out?”
Before, Stanley could only understand the meaning behind those words on a surface level. Now, however, he felt them deep into his body, rattling even his bones that were trained to withstand the harshest conditions.

As Stanley witnesses Earth from afar in space, his mind wanders somewhere else, realizing something important is left unaddressed for a while.

The shadow shrank away from the light and drew closer to the scientist. As it sat beside him, its features became more visible and concrete. A handsome face, beautiful blonde hair, and a pair of clear eyes.
