See, Gordon was pissed at himself. He had already been feeling utterly pathetic the whole day not being able to help the rest of the team to fight off the soldiers that had been attacking them, his lack of arm and foggy mind had been making him feel helpless all this time. How much more pathetic could he get ? By kissing the guy he swore he hated with his guts, of course.
Benrey, Benrey, Benrey, it was always that asshole. Always antagonising Gordon and now making him feel things that were way too complex to unpack in his current state of mind.
Whatever, he'd just bottle up all of his complicated feelings and ignore them forever, that's what he usually did.

Originally written between midnight and 2am back in 2024, I decided to rework the whole thing because I did have some good ideas back them. Very proud of this since it is technically my first hlvrai fic (I'm late to the party, I know) so I hope you will enjoy it <3

This came from my friend's idea of a fic where Ros and Guil are fully aware of the audience's presence and where they would interact with the audience. I am meant to rewrite this as I find it quite short but I would've felt bad to leave it sit in my notes until I found the motivation to change it the way I want to, so Ao3 gets to have the first draft of it until I decide to pick it up. Don't be fooled though, it is a complete plot, just not as long as I want it to be in the end.

Summary
Battat is their favorite thing to mess with. They usually love teasing him, bringing out his negative emotions and encouraging his curiosity. But he has stopped playing the game altogether. He has stopped doing anything at all.
For a reason it can't identify, they don't like seeing him this way. They aren't the emotional type, and neither is he, so they decide to help in a way that is unconventional. A way that he won't realize is helping at all.
It has the right idea, doesn't it?

Benrey opened his eyes. And then closed them. And then opened them again. There was no change, which was weird. Above them was the same black nothingness whether their eyes were open or closed. With monumental effort, he lifted his hand and waved it in front of his eyes and crossed “going blind for mysterious reasons” off the list of explanations for what was happening. They also started a new mental list titled “why my body hurt so bad” because ow, why the fuck did lifting their arm a few inches make their whole body ache.
“Seriously, can I not catch a single break? Ever?”
Oh yeah, something had woken him up. A voice, ranting within earshot of them. That’s three out of five senses secured, win for Benrey.
He sat up slowly, groaning when that proved even harder than lifting his arm. They rubbed their face as their brain started kicking into gear. The voice that had woken him was loud, irritated, and familiar.
The spark of recognition lit in their brain and their head snapped up so fast something in their neck popped. Ow, fuck, that hurt, but he had a bigger problem. That bigger problem was Gordon Freeman standing ten feet away from them in the void.

He's stolen company property, ignored his family, and neglected himself in hopes of success. Now that he's made progress, it's becoming increasingly apparent that one of the AIs in question may not be a program at all. No one can say for certain what this revelation will lead to, but one thing's for sure: HR is going to have a field day with this one.
