Pulling the signet ring from his own finger and pressing it into Dunk’s slack hand, then turning to face his brother and nephews, Baelor’s voice rang a challenge across the room. “I have made my choice. Ser Duncan the Tall is my man, and we will be handfasted as soon as the gods allow. Will you withdraw your grievance, Aerion, or will you meet me in a trial by combat on the tournament field for all to watch?"
Or, to save Dunk from fighting in a Trial of Seven, and to save himself from the doom in Daeron's dream, Baelor offers to marry Dunk instead.

It did not matter what Aerys thought about the name. If it was the name of the person solely made to be Baelor's other half, then everything about them was for Baelor's sake. Not for Aerys', nor for his opinions. Dunk surely was the greatest, kindest, and most honourable person in the world.
Names could be simple, names could be complex, names could be deceptive. The will of the Gods was not always so straightforward.

Summary
The pains came upon him in the early hours of the morning, while mist still blanketed the ground and the birds stayed quiet in their nests. A twinge in the gut, as if his bowels were twisting as they were wont to do before tourneys and talking with nobility. It was easy to ignore at first – Dunk was used to hurts. Smacks to the back of the head, hits to the jaw, aches and pains of training and cuts and broken bones. Pain was familiar, comforting even, in its frequency.

But, being a commoner, Dunk was never educated on what his marks truly mean. Commoners aren't expected to meet their soulbound, so why waist time educating them on the subject.
After the death of his ser, Dunk continues toward the tournament in hopes of finding glory as a knight. He finds a lot more than glory.

This dream is different. It doesn't smell like ash, but of freshly turned dirt, of tree sap - of things being grown and thriving again. So when he sees the very same man - an omega - stepping into the inn he's sequestered himself in, he's a little ashamed to admit that he forgot himself - just a little.
“Is he rut-mad?” He heard the omega demand the barmaid, as if she’d know. “Gods, man, stop trying to-“
Daeron realized with a start that he was squirming, attempting to scent the omega close, to mark him as his own. He couldn’t help it, the urge to possess, to take, to own awakening deep in his blood.

Of course, Dunk has heard the stories of the Targaryens. There can’t be a child in all the seven kingdoms who hasn’t been told stories about how they not only wed brother to sister, but do so in spite of how they present. For a dragon is neither one thing nor the other, as the saying goes, and neither are their masters.

There was no other way to explain the scales that creeped up his skin when he wasn’t careful, the way his back itched as though something was waiting to burst out. It would have been easier, perhaps, if those strange gifts had been a stag’s horns. A fish’s gills. The points of pin feathers.
Everyone knows what happens to Targaryen bastards, Rafe told him as the form took over him once - and only once, shivering in that tiny hole they had carved out for themselves. Look at Redgrass.
He tried not to think of Redgrass.
Meanwhile, Aerion Targaryen could care less about Dunk’s supposed bastardy. He’s much more interested in getting Dunk in his nest with a clutch of eggs - immediately.

Aeron realized in the awkward silence that Prince Daemon was looking directly at him. “Your … your grace?” he asked, utterly bewildered.
“You look sturdy enough to endure your family’s enemy abed, at least for a while.” Prince Daemon waved a hand. “See it done."
It was a joke, it had to be. A foul, crude joke, made by a Prince who had no one to tell him to hold his tongue.
And yet no one was laughing.
