“You asked for me,” Tommy pants, trying not to show pain but knows he’s not succeeding as he heaves air like a man starved. “You asked the heroes to hand me over in exchange for the hostages. You’ve seen me fight. Zyghost knows too.”
He knows that Tommy can’t jump anymore, but that’s all of it. Maybe they’re thinking his electricity and power shocks is something tied to his teleportation, but they can’t know the true extent of Tommy’s “power” and he’s pretty sure that that is what’s keeping him alive.“You want to poke me,” he hisses, although it doesn’t sound nearly as threatening as he wants, when he’s so goddamned tired and hurt and fucking aching.
“You want to prod me. You want to figure out my powers. Either you think I’m your new bargaining chip or your new protégé you want to torture into submission,” he spits, hitting the nail on its fucking head when Sentinel freezes in his sights. “Well I’m fucking neither. I’m Theseus, illegal fucking vigilante and two of your hostages happened to be my family.“And this is personal, bitch.”
Or: Being a vigilante isn’t simple—or legal—but Tommy refuses to sit on the sidelines.

The question came out of nowhere, breaking the silence the two had been in since they climbed into Wilbur's car. Tommy's voice was soft, no brashness, no laughter hiding behind his words. He was tired. Wilbur was too.
"It might be," Wilbur admitted, voice just as soft. "Certainly seems biblical enough."
There have always been a few constants in Wilbur Soot's life. The fact that his father can't make bacon without burning it, the squeaky floorboard right outside his bedroom door that he's never been able to keep from stepping on, and the ever watchful Eye.
The Eye has sat in the sky for as long as Wilbur can remember. No one else can see the Eye, so he learned to stop talking about it long ago. He didn't need everyone in town thinking he was crazy for seeing a giant Eye in the sky.
Until one day, a teenager with a loud mouth moves to town. And with the way he keeps looking up at the sky, Wilbur starts to wonder if maybe, just maybe, he can see it too.

Techno gives himself to them in exchange for something: renown, his life, an escape route off a dying planet. It all seems the same after enough time, and this latest server is no different. “Well,” Tommy says, struggling a bit on terms of how to explain what a name exactly is. “It’s something that people call you”
At once, the boy’s name seems to brighten. “I have a lot of names then!”
Tommy nods, thinking that he’s explained it thoroughly. Man, he’s so cool. “Can I hear some?”
The boy nods but the moment he says the first word, Tommy’s heart drops seemingly from Mt. Prime down to the other side of the world.
“The people in the village nearby call me lots of names! Like Freak, Stupid Boy, Monster and there’s another one! It’s kind of long though—because it’s three words. Get Out Of Here is another name!”

Tommy does not live in a fairytale. He ran away from his parents in an act of survival, not rebellion. He gets a sketchy janitor job that’s in the middle of nowhere to have a place to sleep, not rest.
Yet when he meets the creatures- the merfolk- he believes he’s in a fairytale. He cleans their tank and observes them from their iron bars, trying but failing to ignore the bruises on them.
As time progresses, Tommy decides that the creatures deserve their happily ever after. No more Dream or experiments, and no more Tommy once they escape.
No happy ending for Tommy. That is if the creatures didn’t have their own script they were following.
