There are hearts of soil, steady and patient. Hearts of ocean—salt-brined, tidal, storm-wracked. Some burn with the loyalty of a hound, or cry out with the voice of a cockatoo, bright-feathered and unquiet. Some are fox-hearted, all sharp teeth and soft fur, cunning stitched into every pulse.
But, oh — oh, to have a chameleon heart. A heart that shifts and shimmers, molding to its world with every breath. A heart that matches the color of the room, the tone of a voice, the expectation in another’s eyes. Always beating, always changing — never quite settling on its own, never belonging to itself.

Tommy is just your average 19-year-old... if your average 19-year-old was actually 16 and owned an apartment complex with a cafe on the first floor left to him by his dead parent. He just wants to live his life in peace and quiet running his little cafe. that is hard to do when both the top three villains and heroes like you and your not-so-ordinary overpowered powers that comes in the form of a deck of tarot card that warns him of the future and gives him certain powers based on each card and their orientation. can he keep his power a secret and stay out of the world of powers or does he learn that a little bit of both can also be just what he needed?
this is my first actual story so please go easy on me. feedback is always welcomed. I'll try updating every Sunday.

Clicking on the link, he started to fill out the form. There were some normal questions, like age and occupation and some a bit weirder ones like blood type or how ok he would be with alternative methods of drawing blood. That one was weird.
At one place it even straight out said if he would be ok with being bit in the arm.
So, his future employer was a vampire, cool.
At the end he had to sign a declaration of confidentiality that said he would not disclose what happened at the job.
Well, that was weird.
Now he was actually starting to think the person was a vampire.

“What is your ability? I’ve seen you use it before to fix things, but you never explain it. Is it just like, glass manipulation? Or can you just… fix things?”
Tommy blinked. “I’ll be honest, I wasn’t entirely expecting that.”
“Why not?”

Summary
Tommy had suffered on and off throughout his life from hanahaki, which sort of happens to someone who trusts too much and always gets their hopes crushed. He just wants someone to actually care about him, but he knows he's not going to get that, especially not with Dream and not with how the disease has been getting worse.
Dying and defeated, Tommy's only solace comes in the form of weird eldritch singing emanating from the forest outside his window. He knows that whatever it is will likely be a cannibalistic cryptid from his worst nightmares, but somehow he can't find it in himself to care. Any death will be better than suffocating alone.
Or
Tommy is on a quest to get killed by unknown monsters instead of the ones he does know. This is somehow more difficult than it should be.

In his dreams, there had always been a voice. A soft melodic voice that sang their mother's lullaby. A more monotonous, but just as loving voice that promised he'd teach him to fight one day, once he was old enough of course. The doting voice of a mother laughs with a toddler as she gently tries to fix a small crown onto the boy's brow. And then there was the gentle voice of a father, that promised to always keep him safe from those who'd do them harm.
And in the morning when the boy would awake, he'd wonder who exactly he needed to be protected from.
"Tommy?" A voice called out from the doorway and Tommy grinned gleefully at the sight of his older brother.
"Dream!" He yelled, stumbling out of bed and into his arms, hugging the man tight. His brother returned the hug in kind, his hands pressing warmly into the spot on his back where his wings would ignite from for the first time in a few days, fully grown.
Surely Dream was all the protection Tommy would ever need in this world, right?
A knot of doubt coiled tightly in his chest.

The only real upside to all of this is that their Blood God might be just as lost and confused as Tommy is. Oh, also, he's very much not a god, but nobody's told the cult this.

The entire bar erupted with hoots and hollers, laughing and pointing fun at Wilbur, whose card declined the transaction.
Tommy handed it back with a small smile. “Sorry Wil,” he said, not feeling the slightest bit sorry. “You’re maybe two million short.”Wilbur’s eyebrows shot up on his head. “How much was that single Bloody fucking Mary?”

The police are going to come to the house, again, they’re going to interview Tubbo, again, they’re going to assure them that it looks like Tommy’s foster family left and took him with them of their own accord, again, they’re going to say they’re doing everything they can and they take kidnappings very seriously, again.
They’re going to take the letter and sweater, probably.
It doesn’t really matter though, to Tubbo the most important thing is that he just got confirmation of something he knew was true.

Tubbo's been busy in the time since Tommy's kidnapping. He knows his friend is alive, and he knows that with his experience with true crime and Ranboo... having a driver's license they can track down and save him.
At least that's what makes sense in Tubbo's head.
