Summary
“Can you imagine what it would’ve been like?” asks Merlin. “If you weren’t a king, and I wasn’t—“ he gesticulates, trailing off.
“An all-powerful warlock? A dragonlord?” Arthur supplies gleefully. “An immortal deity worshipped by the Druids?”
Merlin cracks an eye open to glare pointedly at him.
Arthur hides his smile, albeit not entirely successfully. “We’d run, wouldn’t we,” he sighs, shifting to get into a more comfortable position. “Me with my farm,” he murmurs, suddenly finding himself rather melancholy. “You, with your house upon the lake.”
Merlin snorts a quiet laugh. “I doubt you’d know the first thing about tending to a farm.”
“Perhaps not,” Arthur agrees. He looks up to where Merlin is leaning back against the tree, his eyes closed once more in contentment. “Perhaps you’d be able to show me.”
Merlin and Arthur share a quiet afternoon away from the castle.

Summary
It shouldn't be a surprise, really, if the knights think punching each other in the arm is a viable and efficient way of cheering each other up, that they also think insulting each other is a perfectly good way to show affection. Insults are compliments, threats are reassurances, and actual bodily harm is considered good manners or at the very least the mark of genuine companionship. Basically, take everything Merlin's ever been taught about how you actually treat the people you care about and flip it on its head, because stars know that if any one of these men actually behave as though being nice won't incinerate them, the world will actually end.
Alright, maybe he's being a bit harsh.

“You’re so weird,” Arthur said, bringing a hand up to cover his red face. “Is this some weird servant fetish?”
“No,” Merlin said with a grin as he hovered over Arthur’s belly button, pressing a long, though still chaste, kiss to it. “Just me. Just me and loving every bit of you.”

Or Arthur doesn't understand how Merlin can think he's so handsome when there's other men more fit than he.
Merlin isn't having it and shows Arthur just how much he loves his body.

Summary
Merlin and Gwaine spend their days bopping around kingdoms, performing for the masses in exchange for petty coin. Their most popular show by far is when Merlin pretends to be Dragoon; an Oracle of the Old Religion. He is in no way a Seer. Sometimes they perform for room and board, but people often give them payment for his prophecies. When a tavern owner gives Merlin a ring for payment, everything changes.
Turns out the ring was haunted by the ghost of Queen Ygraine Pendragon. Merlin may have magic, but he was not prepared for this. Now Ygraine is threatening to haunt Merlin for the rest of his life if he doesn't travel to Camelot to protect her son Arthur.
He goes to Camelot, and it turns out that Arthur is a huge pain in the ass. But he's also kind and does his best for his people, and that has Merlin and Gwaine falling for him.
If only Merlin didn't have to contend with a genocidal king and political plot involving the Kingdom of Magic.

Merlin, who was in every way possible, Arthur’s complete opposite.
Where Arthur was sharp, Merlin was soft. Where Arthur was rude, Merlin was kind. Arthur’s blonde hair shone like the sun in the day, while Merlin’s raven hair reflected the moonlight like stars. Arthur’s deep plain blue eyes that met Merlin’s pale ones, with small golden flecks inside. Where Arthur was afraid to touch, Merlin was tactile. When Arthur bit back his words, Merlin rambled them.

Arthur is sharp, with rough edges and solid stone. Merlin is gentle, with round edges and a soft centre.
Merlin rounds Arthur's edges, and Arthur loves Merlin.
But his confession comes too late.

"Merlin!” He said, smiling brightly with eyes wide. “Merlin, my love!”
“Oh Gods and Goddesses, please save me,” Merlin mumbled to himself as Arthur scrambled off the table and ran to wrap his arms around Merlin. The sorcerer groaned and looked over his shoulder at Arthur.
“But it hurts to be apart.” Arthur whined, proceeding to unceremoniously drop all 180 pounds of himself onto Merlin’s lap. “It hurts deep in here.”
Arthur grabs Merlin’s hand and rests it over his heart. Merlin just looks at him with a deadpan look as he wrestles his hand back and tries to shove Arthur off.

Or Merlin believes Arthur has been hit with a love spell and has to deal with an insanely clingy Arthur for two days while he tries to figure out how to break it.
A talk with the druids leaves him thinking about his supposedly unrequited love (and how it might not be so unrequited)

He knows the recognisable way Merlin’s eyelids tend to hang low, or the way he hunches over, only to remember his position and square his shoulders as if waiting to strike an oncoming opponent. The way he longs so dearly to turn Merlin in the direction of his bed and let the smaller man sink into his mattress. Watch as his eyes flutter closed and his breathing steadies out. Maybe even reach for him, if he were feeling so brave.

He had felt them behind him before he’d seen them. A new danger, one present in stops and starts throughout King Hywel’s stay, rising up behind him as he walked through the halls, into feasts and the stables and now, to Arthur’s chambers. The familiar buzz under his skin had spliced harshly through him like an airborne blade but he’d kept his pace, not drawing any attention, letting them believe he was yet to notice them.

Summary
A ragged gasp drew itself from Merlin’s lips as the true source of his fear made itself known. One reveal of his magic, one slip up, and he could so easily be the next person executed on the pyre. And that terrified him.
His eyes burst open in an attempt to rid himself of the image and the surprise of Arthur still kneeling in front of him instinctively sent him scrabbling backwards along the tiles, his shirt getting yanked from the prince’s grip. Arthur’s hands shot up to placate him, but it did little to stop his still heaving chest and racing mind.

Summary
After Arthur is crowned King, he repeals the ban on magic. A druid delegation comes to Camelot to discuss repairing the ties between Camelot and the druids. Merlin is reluctantly appointed the magical representative for Camelot. Arthur is nervous about how Merlin will handle the task. Little does he know, he's just appointed the most qualified person in the castle to the job.
Small excerpt:
“Merlin, why would you possibly think that I have any idea of what you are talking about?” Arthur groaned and ran a hand over his face, interrupting the nonsense that Merlin had been spewing for the past five minutes.
Merlin quirked his head and looked at Arthur quizzically, “Because, Sire, you are king, so it's your job to know about the machinations of your people.”
Arthur shook his head and looked at the ceiling of his chambers, praying to whatever god would listen to give him patience, “A nomadic group of druids are not exactly who I would consider within my purview.”
“But they sent word two weeks ago!”
