Dr. Ivo Robotnik did not hate people. That would imply that he cared about them.
What he truly felt was a deep, visceral, almost lyrical contempt for the existence of any being who dared to interrupt the flow of his thoughts with sounds that were not his own.
Because every time someone spoke, his ideas dissolved. His plans lost their symmetry. His world became contaminated.
So, naturally, when Uncle Sam assigned him a new “operations assistant,” he responded with a laugh worthy of a tragic opera, slammed his laboratory door shut, and activated the automated defense system—fully expecting the subject to die before breakfast.
But the assistant did not die.
Nor did he cry.
Nor did he run away begging for mercy.
And, of course, not all three of the above in reverse order either.

Morticia and Gomez shared a worried glance.
From the day he arrived at the mansion, newly orphaned after the death of his parents and placed with them purely for practical reasons, Stone had locked himself in his own world. He hadn’t spoken a word, wouldn’t meet anyone’s eyes, and to their bewilderment, hadn’t committed a single crime.
It was even painful to see him like this, and to compare him to his younger self: absurdly bright, positive, and cheerful. Without a doubt, a peculiar sun within the clans.
But seven years had passed, and none of that joy remained.

“Jon,” Bruce shook his head. He tried to put himself in the child’s shoes, bringing up a hand to massage his head, the painkillers Alfred insisted on taking weren’t having an effect yet. “Jon, what’s the matter?”
The boy cried a few seconds more as he struggled to catch a breath that let him speak. “My tu— stomach.” He revealed.
Bruce’s anxiety heightened. “Your stomach hurts?”
“Uh huh,” Jon replied, sounding every bit of a child he was.

Alfred finds himself left with a little boy to care for. Not just any boy, but a Wayne, destined for greatness like his parents. He does his best to raise him, and it hurts his heart - really it does - but sometimes that means discipline.
Bruce knows he’s not good. Well aware that he deserved what Alfred gave him when he was a child. But now that he has children of his own, Bruce can’t fathom disciplining them like he was.That doesn’t mean Alfred was wrong to inflict those punishments on Bruce. Bruce deserved it. Just not his kids.

Summary
Wayne Manor has stood almost as long as Gotham itself. From the outside, it looks like a haunted house: all dark stone and shadows with lives of their own.
Every so often, someone “has to ask” about the rumors that the building is haunted. A nosy reporter. A drunken socialite. A paranormal YouTuber.
Outwardly, Bruce Wayne laughs them off, dismissing the idea out of hand. It's not his secret to tell.
The reality is that Wayne Manor is much warmer and more welcoming to those who reside there than it is to outsiders. Laughter echoes through the halls. Little faces peer out of the windows, waiting to welcome him home.
That's not to say there are no ghosts.
But they don't haunt the Manor.
They make it a home.***
Bruce somehow finds himself parenting some very traumatized ghost kids. And an equally traumatized living child. Sometimes family is a billionaire, a butler/dad, a gaggle of ghost children, a toddler assassin, and a weird, drunk, magic uncle.
