Summary
Hockey team captain Arthur Pendragon is determined that this year, their team will win the league championship. They’ve got everything they need to win: the perfect combination of players, and they’ve put in the training and effort to make their team a well-oiled machine. The Red Dragons are well on their way towards winning a spot in the playoffs when disaster strikes and their star center Gwaine is knocked out for the season. With their prospects for a replacement slim to none, it’s going to take a miracle to win the cup now.
Figure skater Merlin Emrys has put his hockey past, and the painful memories that go with it, behind him. He’s accepted his ‘twirl girl’ status and enjoys his new sport. Arthur immediately notices two things.
First, Merlin is visibly older. He’s grown into his body in the year that Arthur’s been gone, clumsy movements becoming surer and less awkward. His hair is a bit longer now, showing off his natural curls and framing his ears, which are now pierced with small purple plugs. His clothes no longer hang off of him like they used to and instead cling to him just right, showing off lean muscle where there used to be none, and Arthur realizes he’s staring but doesn’t make himself stop.
Second, Merlin is hot. And exactly Arthur’s type.

The one where Arthur finds out about Merlin’s magic during a hunting trip gone bad, and Merlin, to prevent his powers from falling into the wrong hands, entrusts them to Arthur. Once that he becomes the recalcitrant keeper of his manservant’s magic, the king has the opportunity to form his own opinion about it.
Well, if you ask Arthur, Merlin might be the most powerful warlock to ever walk the earth, but his magic doesn’t feel all that scary. It is almost cuddly. And affectionate. And protective, bordering on clingy. On reflection, it almost seems as if Merlin’s magic is fond of him.
The king vows to ask Merlin for an explanation as soon as he has managed to bring his friend back from wherever he has disappeared to, and defeat the mysterious dark force plotting against Camelot.
