“Is this any good?”
Hans’s breath has a stuttering quality to it. He says, “I honestly don’t know. You’re making me rethink my entire life.”
“Christ,” Henry says, his breath huffing against Hans in a tiny laugh, and Hans shivers again as the heat of his breath meets the relative coolness of the evening air, both touching him at the same time. “I don’t think it’s supposed to be like that.”
“You don’t think? Hasn’t a girl ever sucked you off before?”
Henry purses his lips for a moment, pressing them together. When he relaxes his mouth again, blood rushes back to his lips and paints them a darker shade of pink. “Um. No.”
At the Devil’s Den, two beginners teach themselves and each other something new.

Fighting, blood, bruises, aimless violence taking aim. Spying and subterfuge. This is what Radzig wants, and what she has to do to get what she wants. The only thing that matters. Revenge at any cost. Her father’s sword. It is the only thing. Isn’t it?
His face flashes to the forefront of her mind, blue eyes, golden hair, matching the gold of his beautiful pourpoint, and she thinks of something other than the blood and the violence. Something a little softer. Something slightly more real.
A girl dies in the ashes of Skalitz. Something else rises in her place.

Henry relieves himself of his tunic last, rubbing the gooseflesh spread across his shoulders to a calm. His whole body had broken into them, as if they'd endured the deep chill of winter, and not the weight of another man's eyes.
Henry laughs— at himself, at this want in him he's feeding at last, and how good it feels.
And then the door opens.
"Getting started without me, are you?" Hans asks, his petulant tone teasing.
Henry retires early from an evening at the Devil's Den, and Hans comes to join him.

That, of all things, was what compelled Tess to agree in the end. Jitka hadn't shaken old memories out of the thicket just to have something to talk about; rather, she'd hoped that like Henry, Theresa could be trusted with terror, with pain and rage and fear, and rise to it. To conquer it. No other woman could offer what Theresa could, and so she packed what few belongings she had—even now, still compelled to live lightly enough to flee and not miss anything—and followed Lady Jitka to Pirkstein.

A feeling strikes him then, suddenly. A burst of something in his chest. Like the aftershock from a handgonne. The shock of needing someone, and of having someone. Something to look forward to every time he opens his eyes. Some reason to stay.
Henry opens his eyes. It’s cold outside, or there’s a fire in the mantle inside, or there’s revelry downstairs at the Devil’s Den, or a warm body beside him until it’s not there anymore. A story inspired by the Somnambulant negative perk.

Summary
A sword, he can handle. Cold steel, heavy, growing lighter. Easier and easier to bear. Slowly, he puts his hand on Hans’s wrist, his fingers closing around him. Soft, yielding. He still doesn’t quite know how to wield him. Nothing like the blunt touch of steel, the certainty of it.
He sees Hans through the echoes of the red that touch the edges of his vision when he’s killing, and when he’s not. As though the blood he spills stains his periphery more and more every time.

“How did you…”
Hans trails off as Henry rises to his feet, every movement taut as stretched leather. The birds screech in the trees; Henry turns his back to the fire, to Hans, and gazes across the overlook into the forest below. His gloved hands are in fists by his sides. Morning light glints faintly on the rusted rivets of his brigandine.
Here it comes, whispers a faint voice in the back of Hans’s head.
Henry tracks down a poacher in the woods. Unrelated: Lord Hans Capon is experiencing possibly the lowest moment of his life to date. One thing leads to another, someone takes a sword (?) wound in the thigh, and everything gets more complicated.
Set during the canon KCD 2 storyline; spoilers for the Bird of Prey quest.

It is not for King Wenceslas, Henry thinks quietly. But Sir Fülöp need not know where Henry’s allegiance truly lies. Or perhaps it is not unexpected of a peasant really that his fealty should be only to his liege-lord, and that wherever he may lead a page may follow. Henry knows Sir Hans’ heart though and trusts his lord to lead him on a fair and honorable path. And it is with that knowledge that Henry bows his head—part gratitude, part obedience.

"Are you cold?" Henry asked.
Without armor, in hose and gambeson, he was still an imposing figure: tall and broad, hands stained with dirt and blood, jaw stubbornly stiff. His bare feet were a shock of white in the dirt. He held his helm with both hands, embracing the metal into his belly. His hair was damp with sweat. There was another string of bruises on his throat, shaped like two wide thumbs.
Hans looked away. The tunic around Henry's knee had darkened. Blood was trickling into the dirt.
Hans kills a man, prepares for a wedding, and tries to do at least one thing right.
(Or: five times Hans and Henry didn't share a bed, and one time they did.)
