And may he who has loved, love tomorrow as well ✹For Sir Hans Capon, the act of giving is arguably not a sin. But his curiosity gets the better of him and he asks Henry to try returning the deed.
The problem now is that the two of them are playing a different game entirely...

“Perhaps.” Radzig turns his head and Hans follows his line of sight.
There, standing off to the side and watching the Wardens work, is a man. He wears simple clothes, and the thick leather apron and gloves of a blacksmith. There’s a heavy hammer still held in one hand. And he’s coated in darkspawn blood.

Summary
Hans never liked sharing. It just didn’t come naturally to him. Ownership did, and dominion, and defending what was his, by blade and blood. As lords were meant to do. He didn’t like asking for help, either. Or asking for anything. Demanding, maybe. But not asking. Certainly not pleading. So when he’d found himself doing both — asking, and sharing — it forced him to consider just how strange a shape he’d contorted himself into.
Hans asks Black Bartosch for a lesson. Bartosch is a patient, hands-on teacher.

Summary
“They’ve got Bartosch in the dungeons,” Henry says, coming to stand next to Hans on the wooden battlements of Nebakov. There’s still dried blood on his bottom lip, one half of it swollen and split. It throws off the usual symmetry of Hans’ slightly downturned mouth, and exaggerates the exhaustion starting to settle on them both.

Hans Capon has many conflicting feelings settled at the bottom of great a many tankards and boredom is the lightest of them, all the while Henry tackles similar troubles leading him to revisit past and present.
A little canon-add on fic taking place during the games in its first two parts, then taking into the future; mostly focused on Hansry as a relationship as well as a character study/dive into them as individuals.

It’s been almost two hours since Henry and Adela had administered the potion to Sir Thomas. Henry has the utmost confidence in his own alchemy skills, but the sight of the feverish man worries him all the same. If the Captain doesn’t wake up in time…
“...pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death—”
Henry’s voice catches at the last syllable.
“—Amen.”
The final bell rings clear and cruel as the cawing of carrion crows.
Hans hesitates to do anything that might disturb the moment.
He’d usually rush to fill any quietness with words. Stillness is risky—it leaves him to wander in the hallways of his mind, and he isn’t sure he could face what lies behind the doorways. But with his most trusted companion here, it doesn’t seem so frightening at the moment.
The first chapter is Henry's inner thoughts during For Whom The Bell Tolls, adding the missing scene between the near-death-experience and the moment he and Hans are ready to meet von Bergow. The second chapter is the night that follows, again told through Henry's POV, and the third chapter is Hans' perspective of that same experience.

Henry's nightmares have been worsening, and running away from them isn't helping.
Before… everything… Henry never had trouble sleeping. If it weren't for the nightmares that unfurl behind his eyelids each time he closes them for longer than a blink, he’d sleep like the dead. His ma used to say that the house could splinter and fall to pieces in the middle of the night and he would sleep through it all.
But now, Henry wakes up in a cold sweat most nights, back sticking to the bed, shivering from the chill that sweeps over him as his skin meets the air.

Hans turns his head to show his profile. In the dim candlelight, the slope of his nose is prominent, and so is the familiar pout. “And I’ve noticed that you’ve changed your… appearance quite a lot.” His tone is one of forced calm. There is something else he’s noticed, but won’t mention, not here. Not now.
With the same inflection, Henry says, “I’ve noticed you noticing.”
In the arena, at the dice table, in the baths, in bedrooms, Henry, Hans, and Bartosch notice things about each other.

“What happened?” he whispers, reaching around Henry’s tight shoulders to shove the door shut.
“Nothing,” Henry mumbles, his usual, stubborn self.
Hans tilts his head back to force him to meet his eye.
“I don’t feel particularly patient this morning,” he states plainly. It’s true on many accounts. One being the feat of restraint he demonstrates in holding back from kissing Henry senseless. And he is making it rather difficult with that silly moustache of his, framing a guilty little pout.
“I tripped.”Henry comes back to the Den limping and Hans goes all out taking care of him.

Summary
Hans puts his arms around Henry and they sway, not quite dancing, grasping onto the tattered fragments of song and holding them tight. And it should be joyful but Henry feels the ache in his chest growing and glowing and expanding, cleaving him into mirrored fragments, because the music is so thin and distant and the forest reflections are so wild and strange and they will never do this properly, they will never dance before a minstrel, they will never be more than these phantoms in the dark.

“Is this any good?”
Hans’s breath has a stuttering quality to it. He says, “I honestly don’t know. You’re making me rethink my entire life.”
“Christ,” Henry says, his breath huffing against Hans in a tiny laugh, and Hans shivers again as the heat of his breath meets the relative coolness of the evening air, both touching him at the same time. “I don’t think it’s supposed to be like that.”
“You don’t think? Hasn’t a girl ever sucked you off before?”
Henry purses his lips for a moment, pressing them together. When he relaxes his mouth again, blood rushes back to his lips and paints them a darker shade of pink. “Um. No.”
At the Devil’s Den, two beginners teach themselves and each other something new.
