Barely worth mentioning. At most, it’d get a vague hum out of Nice, who seems far more interested in figuring out the cotton to polyester ratio of Lin Ling’s shirt with how insistently his fingers are toying with the hem of it.
Lin Ling shudders when a thumb accidentally grazes his hipbone. Nice pauses, then pulls his hand back in favour of resting his chin on Lin Ling’s shoulder, tightly securing his arms around Lin Ling’s waist once more.
Hot breath fans against his neck. “Next time,” Nice murmurs, “let me know me when you’re late.”

Summary
Peter Maximoff feels like an outsider in the x-men and when he learns that Scott has been purposefully isolating him and knowing walking all over him he runs. He doesn't know to really know where to go until he ends up in a dive bar outside of Hell's Kitchen where he meets a card-throwing mutant named Gambit by swiping his wallet. Instead of blowing him with a face card, he invites him to play noticing how Peter's able to use his powers to cheat. Gambit takes him under his wing, in a way, and lets him crash at his apartment in turn he helps him out when he plays poker. They first start scamming a couple of poker games to working their way up to bigger ploys and heists until New York begins to catch wind of two mutants using their powers and it's only a matter of time before they get caught.
In the meantime, the X-men are realizing how much they essentially screwed up after a failed mission with Magneto himself when someone accidentally lets it slip that Peter is his son. Feeling that it was really him that drove Peter away from the mansion he set off to find him while simultaneously assisting the X-men in finding the two mutant thieves terrorizing New York about to become three. (Timeline little different read notes)

“Magnets!” Peter greeted as he lifted the goggles from his face. “Long time no see, huh?”
“Indeed,” Erik said as he finally stopped before the boy, taking in his familiar yet aged features with a new appreciation. They hadn’t had a chance to speak after the whole situation with En Sabah Nur, but it was nice to see that the talented young teen from all those years ago had found a place that appreciated his gifts in the X-Men.
After giving a nod of reassurance to the wary mutants still standing around them, Erik waited until they all dispersed before asking the boy curtly “So, to what do we owe the pleasure?”
Peter’s eyes widened just a fraction in alarm. “The Professor didn’t tell you?”
“No. Feel free to enlighten me.”
Letting out a sigh, Peter shook off the panic with a sheepish smile and announced, “I’m your new liaison, congratulations!”

Every handler thought they could “handle” the Phoenix team. Tame them, make them palatable, water them down. Turn them good. So they didn’t like Robert.
