Demian gently lifted Sinclair’s limp hands to his lips, tenderly placing a soft kiss on his fingers, now stained with blood. He looked up at Sinclair’s beautiful face, his teary eyes meeting his and spoke in the same soft, gentle voice.
“It’s going to be okay.”
He wrapped his arms around the boy. Not caring that blood was seeping through his clothes.
“You are beautiful...”
Sinclair’s head was completely spinning...
Demian’s soft, soothing words. His gentle touch. His gentle, loving eyes. All of it felt too good to be true, but here they were. Despite the blood, despite the cuts and the scars... Despite everything he had done...
Demian held him like he was something precious, delicate, and fragile. The feeling of his body against his own was like a soothing balm, warm and comforting in a way that he hadn’t felt in a long time.
He felt like he was going to break.

“Did you see that bird that flew by before?” Sinclair asked suddenly, looking back at Demian. “I think it was a bullfinch, it had this red belly and blueish wing feathers...” he added.
“I did... It was beautiful. It looked as if an artist had painted it, the way the light caught its vibrant feathers... And the way it flew, so gracefully,” Demian said softly as he looked back at Sinclair, a small smile on his lips. “Ah, you’ve got the bird watcher’s eyes,” he added. He loved listening to Sinclair talking about birds.
Sinclair’s face blushed a little at the comment, looking away shyly as he rubbed his hand against the back of his neck, still holding Demian’s hand with the other. “Oh, um... Thank you. I was reading a lot about birds these past few weeks. I... Want to get into bird watching, wanted for a while,” he spoke, sounding timid. “I find it beautiful, you know... The fact the birds are recovering from the chaos of the war too, just like us, humans.”

Summary
Sinclair didn’t remember when felt so safe in someone’s arms last time. But as he was held by Demian, he couldn’t help but feel bitter. He shook his head, smiling bitterly, “God must have been mocking me...” he laughed, a bitter smile still plastered on his face. “Right in my last moments, He showed me you, who I had wished to save me for so long...”
Demian pulled him even closer, his fingers buried in his dirty, messy hair. He hated to think that it would be their last moments together... Seeing the boy so broken and hurt, hearing such words spoken by his own mouth. There was nothing but absolute bitterness and sorrow behind those words. “You are not dying...” he spoke firmly and resolutely. “You are not, I won’t let you.”
But Sinclair didn’t listen to him. His words didn’t even reach him.
If this were truly his last breaths, then he wants what he remembers last to be wonderful.
Selfishly, he took his one last wish.
A kiss.
Planted right on Demian’s lips.
It was short.
And yet...
It felt so real.
