One-shots of my personal Genshin Impact plot twists which consists of my love for Aether, Lumine, Venti, Tartaglia and Xiao.

P.S. I tend to write Ruthless!Aether. When I got into Genshin one of the first things I did was reading Aether's voice lines and the first one I clicked was when Paimon remarked that the traveler just kills every hiluchurl they spot, so 'ruthlessness' was pretty much embedded in my characterization of the traveler from day 1. The way he joked with/at Paimon in many voice lines also gave me the impression that he's one sassy boi.

“You’re still not honest,” Straw Hat looked at him with piercing eyes. “You did not even fight seriously.”

That took Borsalino aback, his eyebrows rising up as he leaned slightly backwards.

    “I assure you… I was quite serious there…”

“Nah,” the young pirate dismissed him, crossing his hands behind his head. “You never were. You played with us in Sabaody two years ago, could have killed Zoro before the Old Man joined the fight -”

He had been playing with them at that stage; rookies were always fun and full of surprises, with new devil fruit powers to figure out.

“Even now, you weren’t fully serious. You weren’t,” Straw Hat repeated as Borsalino probably made a face of disagreement. “Your heart wasn’t in it. You kept complaining!”

“Complaining does not impact my performance…”

“But it makes you lack an edge. It felt like…you wouldn’t have been angry if you had lost.”

He felt like Straw Hat had not been too serious either, but it might have come from the fact he had been split between containing Borsalino and keeping an eye on his allies’ escape…while under the influence of his awakening. It had been a game of cat and mouse, though one where the roles kept reversing.

“Haven’t I lost..?” he tilted his head.

Straw Hat made a face. “Old Man Apple is dead. I lost.”

    “Mhm…”

    Two losers, then…

“What now?” he asked as the silence stretched. “Do you have a…nice cell for me?”

“A cell?” Straw Hat repeated in confusion.

“Sunny doesn’t have those,” Iron Man added with a clear affront in his voice.

    “Ah… Some seastone handcuffs, maybe..?”

    The crew exchanged some looks.

    “Do we still have some..?”

Borsalino scratched his head in bemusement.

“Not very equipped for prisoners, are you..?”

“You’re not a prisoner,” Straw Hat grinned. “I just forgot I had you! We can drop you off at the next island or something.”

His carefree attitude did not seem to be shared by all the other members of the crew: some of them were giving him distrustful glances, showing a level of intelligence superior to their captain’s…not that the bar seemed very high.

“So you’ll let me go,” he decided to confirm, “just like that..?”

“Yeah!” Straw Hat exclaimed, before crossing his arms and tilting his head to the side. “Maybe. If I feel like it.”

    *

    “What are your demands?”

    “My demands?”

    “Isn’t this a hostage situation?”

“Hostage?” Luffy repeated, confusion seeping into his tone. What was Akainu on about? “No, why?”

“...What is Kizaru doing on your ship, then?”

“Ah, it was my mistake. I forgot I had him with me.”

“...So, he is free to leave?”

“He wasn't happy with the mission. I don’t like it!” Luffy exclaimed. “I want him to be honest with himself, then he can go.”

There was a low rumble from the snail in his palm and his eyebrows shot up as he realized Akainu was laughing. The chuckle cut abruptly like the man remembered himself and who he was talking to, but his next sentence was still uncharacteristically friendly. “Good luck with that, kid. Borsalino has never been honest a single day in his life."

“We’ll see,” Luffy took on the challenge.

Brother, the man had said. Luffy knew the feeling, deep in his flesh, his blood, his bones.

That’s why he opened his mouth once more before the connection cut off completely, earning himself horrified looks from his crew:

    “Want our number?”

    *

“I take care of everyone on this ship,” the doctor put his hands on his hips, his voice firm with a belief far beyond Borsalino’s comprehension. “It doesn’t matter who you are.”

    First Black Leg, now this.

“I am a reindeer,” the doctor corrected. “I ate the Human-Human fruit.”

“The Human-Human fruit,” Borsalino repeated with a pleasantly surprised gasp. “The basic one, no model?”

His question received a nod for answer.

“I always wondered if it truly existed… It would be completely useless for a human. Lucky you, eh?”

“So there are more fruits like mine? With models?”

“There sure are… Sengoku’s power is one, the previous Fleet Admiral. Oh, and your captain, I guess…”

“Luffy?” the reindeer frowned. “Luffy has the Gum-Gum fruit.”

They looked at each other in silence for a beat.

    “Right?” the doctor pressed.

    “Ah…"

    “He does not?!”

“I thought you were already aware,” Borsalino shrugged. Sakazuki wasn’t going to like that. “What with his latest form…”

“Luffy is a zoan?! I need to tell him!”

    Summary

Kim Hajin is met with two choices at the end of his story.

Destroy the world he spent 10 years protecting. The world he fought and killed and lived in, just so he could go back to being a mundane, struggling author with a boring, civilian life. Or, keep the world alive, but be forgotten by everyone he knows and loved, with everything he had worked for in the last decade being erased from existence.

So, it shouldn't be a surprise that he refuses both versions of hell, and decides to choose the third choice: throwing himself into the fog of the universe, and making his own path.

    aka:

AU where Hajin gets thrown into the ORV universe instead of being forgotten or sent back. Dokja and Co get the fun new addition of a ruthless mercenary/world saving hero in their gang, and they try to survive the Story together :)

Twenty six lives. Hajin had waited until they were physically unable to end another life in the milliseconds of time left, and then took them all out with clean shots.

“You!” Hyunsung strode up with a righteous face. “Why…why would you do that!”

Hajin gestured at the headless, exploded corpses.

“Did none of you wonder how much worse he could be towards those who actively failed and lost his game? If that—" He gestured again at the corpse. “—is what he does to someone who hadn't even played?”

The terrified looks turned into matching looks of dawning, horrified realization.

    *

Hajin arrived in the afternoon with a wagon full of supplies, and every member of the major group missing.

“The enemies here didn't have manners. They were incredibly indecent, and mean to their fellow citizens. So, my only choice was to take out the trash.”

Evandel blinked, seeming to understand there was some underlying meaning, but still too young to perfectly get it.

“Because...you're a hero, and heroes do all their chores before dessert?"

    *

“It should have been more popular!” Dokja lit up with surprising fire. “Every chapter was crafted with sincere emotion and amazing character depth, creating perspectives and scenarios that elicited strong reactions no matter how many times I re-read them. Tls123 has a way of world building and adding gravity that no other modern web novel has! Every other story is all about cheating age regressors with one dimensional side characters and not even two dimensional main characters with absolutely no concept of consequences, pacing, or stakes—”

Hajin went wide eyed and a bit flustered at how passionately Dokja spoke about the story of this world, not expecting such a reaction from such a simple question.

“—they all plagiarize each other, but not even the good bits. There’s always some comic relief pervert that adds zero substance or character development, and if there isn’t, it’s because that character is the main character! I’ve seen some isekai that make me genuinely question the author’s morality, with how the MC will have a harem with literal slaves—”

Kim Dokja was very clearly a dedicated fan and reader, just bursting with commentary on every aspect of the story and how it was better than any other web novel out there.

It made Hajin feel almost nostalgic. Wistful, even, for the commenters who left notes on his amateurish old novels. Before The Returnee Hero blew up, Hajin had so few readers that he remembered the usernames of those who left reviews by heart. Very few read his stories, and fewer still had anything to say.

Despite all these prophets pooling their knowledge of WoS together, they came nowhere close to what Dokja had accomplished. It was hard to judge whether that was because the Prophets were idiots, or if Dokja was a genius.

Hajin found his ally to be an incredibly strange mix of a greedy reader who wanted a perfect ending, and a selfless friend with little concept of his worth.

    14

“Is he really the main character?” Hajin smiled at the younger man, framed by the glowing gold of the dome and the stars of the night. “From where I'm standing right now, you look like the protagonist of this story, Kim Dokja.”

Dokja blinked in shock as Hajin raised a hand in surrender, forfeiting his right to sit on the Absolute Throne.

    17

“Who cares how she got strong? Who cares if she made a deal with a Demon King?” Hajin’s eyes flashed with his bubbling mana, struggling to keep it down. “At least she values human lives. I get that you’re some chuunibyou who likes to act like all the world’s a game, but five innocent people died because of you. You orphaned a 12 year old boy named Kang Sinwoo, and took his mother away from him. His only family is dead, and he’s alone in a ruined world. Are you proud of that?”

“What, and you’re so clean?” Han Sooyoung reared back up. “You telling me you’ve never been forced to kill this entire apocalypse?”

“I have never forgotten the name of the first innocent man I killed.”

The room went deadly silent. Hajin looked her straight in the eyes, unflinching.

“His name was Chae Jinyoo. Who was yours, Han Sooyoung?”

The temperature in the room had gone from boiling over to frozen, flames doused by his chilling confession.

"Are you and that sunfish a couple?”

Honestly, I’d ask that too, Hajin admitted privately. Even knowing Dokja simply read Yoo Jonghyuk’s novel, they had a very unique relationship from an outsider point of view. Dokja’s commitment to the other man SEEMED out of nowhere, and Yoo Jonghyuk’s strong reactions to Dokja WERE from out of nowhere.

“Jinx?” he seemed horrified at the state of her.

The tears all rushed back, as she threw herself onto him- hanging by his shoulder with one of her arms and the other, gripping onto the clothes around his waist “Save her!”

Surprised at the sudden contact, the desperation in her voice, and the fact that he had no context as to what had just happened, he wasn’t sure what to do- so for a second, she clung onto him, shoulders shaking as she cried.

“Who?” he questioned, looking around for an answer.

There were several of them, with bodies laying on the floor left and right.

    “Isha!” she cried out.

For once.. she was the one who needed saving. Where S2, E6 left off.

Jinx stared at the mattress, before looking up at him.

“You brought me a mattress?” her eyebrows furrowed- her face a mix of confusion and amusement.

“Uh.. yeah.” he scratched the back of his neck with his hand “I just had it laying around and Isha..”

Jinx raised an eyebrow “You got me food and now a mattress? You’re really fucking annoying, you know?”

Ekko smiled at that, as Sevika spoke up “Bare minimum living conditions- how romantic.”

“Why the fuck are you still here?” Jinx turned to look at her.

“Good point," she nodded, turning around to walk off.

    *

    “I care.”

    “No. Tell me the truth.”

His chest suddenly feeling heavy. “You're.. a part of me.” he furrowed his eyebrows, “I need you to be okay, or I.. won't.”

    *

The last thing he expected was to see a girl crash right onto the table in the middle of everyone.

Her striped pants that she was so known for, now cut into shorts that exposed her upper thighs, and he recognized the top she was wearing. Because it wasn't a top- rather one of the belts he had hanging on his wardrobe, only held up on one side of her shoulders. He could practically see her underboob, and she didn't seem to give a shit. He could see a lot more of her tattoos now that she was so exposed, along with that pretty waist and long torso his hands had always longed to touch.

To say he'd frozen in shock, would be an understatement. His eyes betrayed him, looking over her hungrily.

“Seems now that half of the Piltover is dead, they want to play nice. Mel and the leach my sister keeps at her side want to try and magically fix things with Zaun. Vi dropped off for a visit to try and delusionally convince me to give Piltover the green card to do as they please.”

    6

“It's heavy and…” she opened the jacket, to see the bunch of pockets lining the inside of it. “I could fit so many bombs in this!”

A girly squeal reached his ears, as Ekko slapped a palm across his face, making Isha crack up laughing.

“Is there a limit to the things I can steal from you?” she questioned, a teasing smirk lining her lips.

“You can end with my sanity.”

    7

“Why does the connotation of Zaun having independence equals war?” Jinx spoke up.

    *

"How did she escape?” Ekko yelled out, eyebrows furrowed.

“She's Jinx’s kid, why are you even questioning it?” Sevika rolled her eyes “Never seen so many people scramble all at once- they either care or they're terrified for their lives.”

    *

“You're not gonna talk to her until you explain to me, how the fuck a part of you is still in Zaun, when you quite literally gassed the very streets I've been trying to keep clean, at her side?” He pointed at Cait “Gave away Jinx’s hideout twice, were willing to literally murder her, and your little girlfriend shot her fucking finger off while endangering a child!”

Sevika let out a whistle at that while Jinx looked back at him in surprise.

“She killed my mom!” Cait yelled out.

“While every loss is heart-breaking and we can't compare tragedies, I asked Jinx today if her own dad, who's been killed, ever braided her hair and she genuinely asked which one.”

When she knew they'd all fully scurried off, she mocked Ekko’s deep voice “Don't get in trouble.”

“I do not sound like that.” he rolled his eyes at her.

“It's like you don't know what we got up to every time Benzo and Vander said stuff like that.” She shook her head “They'll get in trouble. Let's just hope it's not as catastrophic.”

“I prefer playing dumb on that part. If I don't see it it's not happening.”

    “Great coping mechanism.”

    26

The entire circle had stopped, some staring in shock, others in awe.

    A baby.

    *

The whisper of Jinx’s lullaby stopped, but the tears were far from running out.

    *

“She needs to know how much I've suffered.” Isha put a hand over her heart dramatically.

“Bunny, it's not my fault you picked your daddy before I did my boyfriend.” Jinx explained, raising a brow “Usually it's the opposite. You had no patience.”

“I only liked him ‘cus he was nice to me and you didn't flinch when he touched you, which was a big deal.” Isha explained, humming, before looking down at her baby sister “Technically, you should be thanking me for your entire existence.”

“Alright.” Jinx let out an exhausted sigh, picking her baby up from Isha’s grasp “That's enough sister bonding time.”

    Isha giggled evilly.

The letter was sitting folded next to an empty prescription bottle of sleeping pills. Gunwoo could feel his heart break as he forced himself to read on, spiderweb cracks spreading with every word he took in, his mind already filling in everything unsaid in between the neatly written lines.

This wasn't just some kid in over his head, this was someone deeply affected by his trauma, who saw the choices left in his life and yet still accepted that this was supposed to be his ending, he welcomed it with an innocent acceptance.

“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry,” Gunwoo says to himself, desperate for a god he didn’t believe in that Moondae could still somehow hear him. “This will never be enough, I know, but wherever you are I hope you can feel this, I hope you can hear me. You’ve been so brave, Moondae-yah.”

Loneliness. Isolation. He knows what it's like to be an afterthought so he's making Park Moondae his priority.

"We're going to be okay, we're going to make it through this. You're never going to suffer another day in your life, you hear me?" Gunwoo whispers roughly. “Happy birthday, Moondae-yah.”

Ryu Gunwoo wakes up as Park Moondae on a cold winter evening in the middle of December. Park Moondae had turned 17 yesterday.

"Oh," Moondae says, feeling a little dumb. "Is that what those weird comments were about?"

He had gotten used to how Wongil was exceedingly sweet to him that the backhanded compliments had just sounded like compliments until that very moment.

He had his 'you have to debut or you're going to fucking die' horse blinders on.

Yoo Joonghyuk watches warily, and with some displeasure, yet does not say anything to stop her.

“I’ll take him off your hands,” Lee Sookyung announces, not taking any objections. Kim Dokja is a little too heavy for her to hold easily, but a mother’s strength is never to be questioned.

As the nebula bids their exhausted goodbyes, Kim Dokja’s hand closes around a fistful of her brown hair.

    *

“...still at work,” she agrees. Because, what else can she say? Dokja-yah, your father is dead. You killed him. He died angry at you. The man you call so sweetly for was gone long before that.

He takes it well, only a little pout before he gets over it. It’s truly, truly a miracle, that he takes everything so well.

This Kim Dokja is small and quiet, so he rarely says anything when he’s worried. Not until it bursts out of him.

    …actually, he’s still a lot like that, isn’t he?

Lee Sookyung kisses his forehead and he smiles, eyes still closed. “Eomma,” he whispers. “Love you most-est.”

She doesn’t need to ask about this one. That prophecy had already revealed that this was another thing that had changed over the years. Of course, that hurts too. But every mother knows, from the day they give birth, that a time will come when they will have to give that baby away to somebody else.

“I love you too,” she whispers back.

“The most-est?” he fights sleep to say. A yawn spreads over his face, and she catches it, stifles it in her mouth.

“...yes.” She kisses his cheek again, driven by an instinct. “Out of everybody in the world, Eomma loves Dokja the most-est.”

One thing that will never change. When Lee Sookyung pushed him out of herself, alive in a painful, tearing, melting world, she also gave birth to this truth.

    *

By the time he overcomes the top stair, Kim Dokja is very, very angry.

He splays out on the floor, panting hard. His frown is dark, his pout stubborn.

“You leave me there! On—the bottom! You leave! ” he accuses. His cheeks are red in exertion, and only grow darker when Lee Sookyung kneels slowly to pinch one. “Eomma, car-ry, car-ry me.”

…he’s done such a good job climbing the stairs even though he despises them so much. She's helpless but to open her arms to him, letting him clamber into her embrace so that he can be held against her chest.

Even though he’d been so annoyed moments before, Kim Dokja seems to immediately forgive her the moment she hugs him. He’d always been like that as a kid, so easy to let her get away with teasing him as long as she was nice afterwards. Lee Sookyung appreciates it at this moment, but can’t help but be glad that he’s since grown out of such easy forgiveness.

One day, she’ll say his name for the last time, hear his voice, touch him, see his face for the last time.

“Eomma,” Dokja coos into her ear. “Eomma… pretty. Eomma… yummy. Eomma… erm, sup-er-he-ro.”

Lee Sookyung cradles him close. She wishes, more than anything, to freeze the world and keep him in this moment, where her arms can shield him from any attack. This son of hers has become a secretive recluse over the years, but she knows he’d struggled in places she couldn’t see, at the hands of people she doesn’t know. It feels like a betrayal, that the world she’d brought him into and taught him kindness in, is the same world that turned around and tore him to shreds.

The thought brings another, close behind. …was this… did her own mother feel like this, when Lee Sookyung confided in her?

Still unused to how ridiculous he is at this age, Lee Sookyung laughs. It's a happy noise. “Dokja-yah, I told you to say hello.”

How embarrassing. “No hello!” Dokja shouts, before seeking refuge in her legs once more.

“So cute,” Lee Jihye mumbles, with the kind of unique, eager frenzy that only a teenage girl can have for something adorable and small. “Master, isn’t he just so cute?!”

    *

“...you were so cute as a child.” Lee Sookyung stands up and sighs at him. “Now look at you.”

To his credit, the man does greet her with some respect. Lee Sookyung still doesn’t like him all too much, but Kim Dokja does, swaying towards him as he asks a dozen questions about the things he’s missed.

“Ahjussi!” a little girl cries, rocketing over to slam against his stomach. A young boy follows hot on her heels, and their combined forces almost knock Kim Dokja over. “Are you feeling better now?”

“I missed you!” Lee Gilyoung looks up at him with wide eyes. “We thought you’d be stuck like that forever.”

If only, Lee Sookyung thinks. But that’s a little unfair. She loved her son as a toddler, cute and small and unhurt.

Yet, at the same time, she thinks she prefers him like this, whole and well-suited to the niche he’s carved for himself.
