Zemo wakes with a start and instantly knows something is wrong. The window is open more than when he left it, and he looks around the dark room until his eyes land on a black form in the far corner that shouldn’t be there. He reaches for the gun he keeps on his bedside table and finds it gone. His blood turns to ice, and he knows he is in trouble. The form in the corner shifts and starts to slink towards him unevenly and he can do nothing but sit in bed and wait for the inevitable. Someone has found him, and this will be the night he dies, he’s sure of it. But then the dark figure crosses over into the beams of moonlight flooding in from the window and he sees someone he never thought he would see again. The moonlight casts pale light over the face of James Barnes; but then he sees the man’s eyes and realizes that this is not Barnes, but the Soldier crawling towards him.
Zemo doesn't try to kill himself after the events of CA:CW. Instead he flees to a cabin in the Swiss Alps to live out his life in peace. Then the Winter Soldier tracks him down and a new bond is formed with the broken Soldier
