“I referenced that poem once. Two weeks ago.” Stebbins’ eyes are narrow, like he thinks there’s a joke being pulled on him. Pete wishes there was. It’d make this less awkward. Pete just ignores him, looking down at his more than battered shoes as avoidantly as possible.
But he can’t quite help himself, not when there’s a remark to be made. “Yeah, m’aware. Took me a damn long time to find’n all. You couldn’t just make it easy for me, could you?”
“Didn’t mean to make it hard, either. Didn’t mean to make it anything at all.” Stebbins retorts, though, no, maybe retorts is too harsh a word. It’s just a soft kind of comment, abject. Hurtful in a way that Pete can’t quite bring himself to understand, so he buries it. And while he does that, Stebbins quietly removes himself from the other boy’s bedroom, clicks the door shut, and disappears without a trace of him ever having been there in the first place."
OR: Pete doesn't know how to talk to Stebbins, but he figures it out as he goes along. Homoerotically.

“We said majority. This is a majority.” She hesitates, because she’s fair, strangely. Because while she’s planning to take another person’s life, she doesn’t want the other’s guilt on her conscience. She moves to the middle of the room, and scans both sides. “Unless anyone wants to change their vote?” Silently, Janae walks across the room, over to Jackie’s side. A ghostly smile springs up on Jackie’s face. “That’s nine vs six. Almost two thirds. The hunt is on.”

Abruptly, he hears his phone go off. Weird. He really doesn’t have that many friends, and the ones he does have know that he’ll be going on a plane in something like half an hour. Weird. Curiosity gets the best of his raging hard on, and he waits for his phone to recognise his face. Strangely enough, the message is from Toni. It’s short and sweet, in all lower case, which is unusual. What’s even more unusual is its contents - “there’s nothing under this.”

“Fuck, stop!” She screeches suddenly, cheek against the floor. “I’m stuck, my leg- my leg’s stuck. I don’t- I can’t-” Raucous coughing. “Please, please, Chase, save me, please!”
“I’ve got you.” More urgency in his voice this time, willing her to quiet. “I’ve got you.” Quieter, this time. “I’m going to move you onto your side, and you’re going to lift your leg over. It’ll be hard, but you can, okay? You can. I’ve got you, so you can.”
He can see her attempting to nod, like a sleepy toddler. She could be concussed. He has to get her out of here. “Mhm.” She mumbles, grimacing.
He rolls her over as she groans, desperately trying not to hurt her. “I’ve got you.”
He watches as she lifts her knee over the base of the seat, crying out as her knee hits metal. However, she’s determined. She’s half passed out, she’s barely breathing, but she’s alive, and she’s perseverant. She finally gets it out, dropping it in front of him weakly. “You’ve got me.”
From there, he reaches further for her, grabbing her shoulders and hoisting her up into a sitting position. She’s out cold. And still, he whispers; “I’ve got you, Thalia.”
