Summary
Fire was the thing that took them away, the attorney had told him. Chimney looked up the report as soon as they got back to the station. Cause of death, smoke inhalation. Their dryer had ignited while they were sleeping. A neighbor had called 9-1-1 after seeing the flames and told the firefighters on scene where to find the nursery and they were able to get to Casey in time.
“If you don’t want to, that's ok," Eddie said. "It's a huge responsibility, but don’t say no because you think you won't be good at it. You’re amazing with Chris and you're practically his second parent. I was a teenager when I became a dad. If I can figure it out, you can.”
“Eddie, you called me last week upset because you feel like you don't have the parenting thing figured out.”
“Okay, low blow, but what did you tell me?”
Buck sighed. “I told you that you love him and are fighting to do what’s best for him, which is the most important thing you can do as a parent.”
“I know you would love this kid with everything you have and you would fight for him just as hard as you would fight for Chris.”

Summary
“Beige isn’t your color,” Adam said when the guards walked Ronan into the room.
“Rude of them to not have Irish complexions in mind when they picked the prison uniforms. Why are you here, Parrish?”
“Kavinsky,” Adam said.
Ronan sighed. “I don’t know where he is.”
“I want you to help me find him.”

Summary
“You’re exhausting,” Eddie says. The words slip out in the heat of his frustration.
Exhausting because his selfishness has taken him away from Eddie and Christopher, and his absence has proven that somehow Buck has become a vital piece of their lives. Without him, Eddie unravels.
Exhausting because Buck brings out feelings that Eddie frantically tries to smother. Things he hadn’t considered about himself until he joined the army when it had already been too late. His vows to Shannan still meant something to him even when he was running away. Eddie’s feelings had only been stirrings back then. Somehow Buck ignites them in full force.

Summary
If Hen had any heartbreak left in her, watching Eddie’s grief would have done it. After they’d passed Buck off to the hospital staff, Eddie pulled away from them and sat in the furthest corner of the waiting room, silent and unresponsive. It was as if he wasn’t even there, like he was the one who couldn’t wake up.
“You’re in love with him, aren’t you?” Hen said. She rarely asked questions she didn’t know the answer to.
“It doesn’t matter,” Eddie said blankly.

Summary
“We’re just concerned about your future,” Phillip said. “We don’t want to see you stuck raising a disabled child who is nearly a teenager which seems to be happening already.”
“Dad—” Buck said, his voice raising.
“Exactly,” Margaret chimed in. “Evan, you don’t know what it’s like to be a parent. It’s difficult to love a child, especially one that isn’t yours.”
“No, it’s not,” Buck shouted. “It was so easy for me to love him. Maybe it was just hard for you to love me. I have been a part of Christopher’s life since he was seven and I have loved him the whole time. I would have died for him. I-I nearly did.”

Summary
“What do you want me to do?” Remus says, tiredly. All he wants is to curl up on his bed. Smoke a pack of cigarettes. Get drunk. He can’t stop looking at Harry.
“Remus...” Dumbledore is gentle. Remus hates when he has that tone. Hates that he knows it will hurt. “There is no one else left.”
A bitter laugh escapes him. “So you’ll curse the poor thing with a werewolf for a guardian?”

Summary
Adam thinks they’re all experiencing a sort of internal crisis over the shocking reality of how human life happens. Adam himself has seen impossible things, things that shouldn’t be able to exist, skeleton armies and visions of false futures from inside of trees and a thousands of years old mad woman dancing out of a stone coffin, has seen Ronan produce impossible things out of his dreams and Blue’s mother staring into the future, has seen his father taken away in handcuffs and Ronan Lynch smiling at him like he, Adam, is the answer to all of Ronan’s questions, and that’s a good thing. Adam has had trees talking to him in his dreams. He thinks he was expecting all of those miracles to somehow prepare him for the fact that there’s someone growing, there in Abby’s stomach.
They haven’t at all, really, though.

Summary
Ronan slinks out of their bedroom, still in his pajama pants and muscle tank. He eyes the baby in Adam’s arms like it’s a live grenade.
“I called Blue’s mom,” Adam says before he can ask. “She’s coming by later to bring us some baby supplies.”
Ronan nods, still looking thoroughly spooked. Serves him right. “Shouldn’t you be leaving for work?”
Adam rolls his eyes. “No, I had to call out because my boyfriend dreamt us a baby this morning.”
“Jeez, it was just a question. You’ll scare the kid with that attitude.”
