The day Penelope got held hostage was uneventful.
The team had been on a case a few hours away, a rare interstate mission, investigating a particularly slippery UnSub. The only specifics they had was that he was an overly confident young man and he held a leadership position. She had found amusement in and commented on that description applying to half of the men she knew. Gideon had looked at her blankly and said he could also snap any second if stressed or provoked. Penelope didn't find that as amusing.

Sammie never planned on making any stops out of Clarkesdale, Mississippi. He left that preacher house, guitar clutched to his chest and vowed to never look back. He would carry blues in his heart, all the way to Chicago. He couldn’t be with any of the people he had left, they wouldn’t understand why he’d spend the rest of his life waking up screaming. They wouldn't understand why he’d still pursue music after dancing with the devil.
He never planned on making any stops, but dragging himself past the entrance of the Juke-Joint, past Bo and Grace’s bodies, he remembered her.
He remembered her small, still-chubby face from his quick trips down to town.

Tommy is too far off to limit the cries of pain that escape him. Ellie struggles to keep him down but she does because he’s tired and weak and he can barely move. He feels his consciousness slipping away and his eyelids begin to flutter closed.
“I swear Tommy if you fucking die on me!” her voice cracks.
Tommy laughs even though Ellie is looking at him with tears in her eyes and it’s really not funny.
She frowns and turns ahead, “Joel! I don’t know what to do!”.
Tommy wonders if he’s hallucinating again before his mind drags him into the abyss.

“Go away,” she demands with all of the force of a general giving orders.
“Don’t think I will,” he responds mildly, and Ellie exhales a snort like an angry bull, wiggling again.
With a sound of exasperation, Joel lets her go before he drops her, and he’s too slow to catch her before she ducks under the table out of reach and starts shoving at Tommy’s legs. He plants his feet in response, and the only warning for what’s coming next is a frustrated growl before the leg of his jeans is yanked up and sharp little teeth sink in above his ankle.
“Ow!” He exclaims, more surprised than hurt, even though she certainly wasn’t holding back. Sarah was never really a biter, so he hadn’t seen that move coming.
Apparently this one, however, has no qualms against being a fucking piranha.
