“Inuyasha, stop.”
“I told you not to see him, the brat.”
“His name is Koga and he came to see me. He stopped by the hospital and we don’t exactly have the choice to deny patients.”
“Then why do you smell just like him?”
“I do not!”
“You sure do!”

Techno sat down next to him, shrugging off his coat. He laid it over both of their laps, and the blonde looked up, inquisitive.
“‘s cold,” was all he said. The kid was in just a ratty t-shirt and it was snowing; his shivers hadn’t gone unnoticed. Techno expected him to argue or at least move out from under it, but he just nodded again, focusing back on the assignment.
They fell back into silence as Tommy kept writing.
“...I don’t know what I’m doing wrong… Are you any good at finding roots?”
“Probably a bit rusty, but I could try. If you want.”
“...Yes. Please.”

A screen flashed to life, hovering just over the blank wall. Pig pressed gently on the edge of the mat with a hoof and it spoke.
Well… it kind of spoke.
The sound that came out was definitely some alien approximation of some human language that Tommy couldn’t quite place. Also, it had some sort of lilted quality (maybe from an audio overlay filter?) that didn’t quite sound like talking. More like…
The blonde tapped a section of the mat with the tip of his shoe to see if it would respond to him too.
It sang, Tommy realised, in German this time, and the screen above the place he had pressed lit up.

“Not any he responds to yet. It’s only been a few months since we picked him up, but we’ve been working on it, believe me.” The only thing filling the silence was a low murmur coming from deep within the human’s chest.
“Are they usually this affectionate?” Phil had started petting the human with both hands, cane set on the floor to the side.
“He was separated from his mother too early. Poaching is a big problem when it comes to humans, either for unethical testing or zoos.”
“We thought about rehabilitation and release, but he’s been raised in captivity,” Sam added, leaning against the wall. “He wouldn’t survive in the wild.”
“He was violent at first, understandably, but he’s since calmed down. As far as I’m aware though, this is the most tender he’s been since we picked him up. Maybe he can tell… Well…” Puffy flushed, looking away.

It’s not even the matter of clashing sleep schedules, Phil’s never had an issue with that. Vampires can be quiet when need be. But nothing in the world can change the fact they’re dead in the heart, and cold to the touch, and absolutely fucking insufferable in sticking their freezing hands up his sleeves, as if he’s their personal hand-warmer.
One of these days, he’s just going to put a cross on the door and let them stay cold out on the hallway floor.
(Or, vampire!sbi, except Phil is the coven’s token human.)
