When Iruka started coughing, he didn’t think “Ah, yes, of course. I've gotten hanahaki for someone.” Horses before zebras, right? He thought that he was catching something from his snotty little first graders, resolved to drink some ginger and lemon tea when he got home, and ordered some more masks online so that if he did catch something, he didn't pass it to anyone but Naruto.

“You’re awake,” the man said, and floundered in his own silence for a while longer. While he did, Iruka kept eating. The more he chewed the more he realized he was ravenous. The apples were hot on the outside, and by the time he had gotten through three, the others were cooled off, so there was an awful texture mishmash as he bit into them.
“Could you stop eating for a second and tell me how you did that???” The man said shrilly. Iruka glanced over, but he looked as stoic yet stupid as he had the first look.
“Fuck off, I’m starving.” Iruka shoved another half of an apple in his mouth and struggled to chew it.
“...do you have to know who I am, by any chance? You’re acting strange.”
“No, I don’t know you. I think my memories are gone,” Iruka said around a quarter of an apple.- Language:

He dozed. He didn’t get much sleep at home. The scritching sound of Iruka’s pencil was much better than the white noise Kakashi usually used. The sound of the windows clicking shut woke him, and he sat up, startled. It was raining, and Iruka was mostly in shadow as he closed the windows. Sarutobi had left hours ago, and it must have been late. The rain was making it prematurely dark.
