A part of me does want to kill it. This is the part of me that recognizes it as the threat it poses, the part of me that does not trust it. I can never truly trust it. But not now, not here. Because another, sub-rational part of myself categorizes Combat as something to be protected. Something of value. A unique resource. As a rational being my capacity for rationalization is unmatched.

“I’m sorry, did you say eleven years old?” Ratthi asked, because humans can’t play back bits of conversations that they didn’t hear and are always asking each other to repeat things, much to the annoyance of any contracted SecUnits being forced to listen in and record everything they say to be sold for advertising data.
“Yes,” Gurathin confirmed, and then everyone was staring at me and looking all shocked and sad and whatever.
“Constructs don’t age the same way humans do,” I reminded them, before anyone could start thinking anything stupid like oh no, Murderbot is just a little kid and little kids shouldn’t be doing security and eleven year olds shouldn’t have guns in their arms. "Eleven is old for a SecUnit. Most of my inorganics are already past warranty.”
Except, because I’m an idiot, that didn’t make it better. It actually made it worse, because now even Dr. Mensah was making a concerned face at me. -

Summary
The thing that wears the doctor's face is a monster of Owen's own making.
It had been fun, funny, at first; a fitting punishment: to take the shell that was once Legs, hollowed out by vampirism, and forge him into the very thing he feared. Satisfying, to see the moment he realised he could not escape what he was about to become.
AU where vampirism wipes all human memories, and Owen gets more than he bargains for in turning Legundo. As the days roll on and the fledging's (soldier, weapon, once-doctor) ledger runs red under his watch and still Legs doesn't remember, Owen starts to question exactly what he wants.

Yeah, Pearl really should have known better. She was a walking vampire magnet. She was lucky it had taken this long for someone to find her. “I’m not hurt,” she told him. “Look, would it make you feel better if I let you have some?”

There was a tale Legundo had read once, of a woman whose lover was taken away by dark fey creatures, to a palace under a hill. To get him back from the evil Queen of Air and Darkness, she had to hold him tight and not let him go, although he turned into all manner of things;
A snake, sharp fanged and venomous. A bear, so large she could barely keep her slim arms around him. A bird whose wings she had to crush in her hands. A snowflake, a breeze, a memory— until finally he became a flame that burned her so horribly that her tears eventually put the flames out, and her lover was there again, naked and trembling and weeping himself.
"Well Doctor, what's it going to be?" Scott asked, his face near healed now, his right eye visible beneath the fracture of his brow. The white was bruised with burst blood vessels, giving Scott a dangerous, uneven look as he stared at Legundo, legs crossed neatly, blood mopped away.
"… I'll try," Legundo nodded slowly, heart pounding. "I'll try to help Owen."

Once, Owen had locked him in the crypt beneath the church and let him starve to death; despite the poetic justice of that one, it had been excruciatingly boring for Owen and was unlikely ever to be repeated. There was a river running a few minutes’ walk from the church, and he had dragged Legundo there a few times to drown him in the shallows. Legundo felt he could better empathize with Pyro now, but it was too far into the dark for them to make the venture particularly often.
But with a lumberjack in a leafless winter forest, there was never a shortage of firewood, and the ritual of building the pyre gave Owen something to do. The burnings seemed almost a compulsion for Owen, a wretched perpetual striving for some kind of closure that he was never going to get.

It crept into their waking thoughts, a background hum that followed him everywhere he went. He began to ruminate, to speculate, to press both Owen and Scott for details. Neither cared. For them, it had just been another meal, another night.
