Summary
Jake's been chasing every one of Bradley Bradshaw's records for as long as he can remember. Bradshaw is a distraction during the competition, and there's nowhere for Jake to escape in the small circle of the swimming world.
But Jake's hell bent on carving an illustrious career complete with as many golds as he can muster. So he can handle it: can handle how the more times he and Bradley fall into bed together, the less capable he is of staying away.

"You need a hat, Rooster," the familiar drawling voice sounds from the lower level.
"Someone stole mine," Bradley spins back, already feeling a smile draw at the edges of his mouth. It's easy to admire Jake when he's like this: golden and still shining from an earlier dip into the water, swim trunks slung low enough he can see the deep carved out muscles of Jake's stomach.

This – the grime, the rumble of the tracks, the sticky air, and Jake looking at him – was the most romantic city, a cacophony crash for the two of them.

Summary
When Jake is traded to the Bills at the start of the season, Bradley faces the loss of one of his best targets downfield and his best friend 7 hours out of reach. This would be hard enough as it is, except Bradley is also hit with the realization he's been in love with Jake and is a complete fool about the whole ordeal.
Jake fell first. Bradley fell harder, with the cataclysmic drama only a NFL starting quarterback could be capable of.

Summary
Every time Ilya saw Shane, he felt a lurch in his stomach. It had started before he dared to put a name to it, at the very first eager introduction he'd brushed off — a sudden welling tide of affection when he noticed the dark eyes alight in anticipation, freckles shifting with whatever expression was on Shane's face. Like a fool, Ilya had thought not naming it for a long time would keep the emotions at bay.
Ilya still didn't want to put a name to it, but he knew the danger there.

The moment they’d bundled Bradley into the medical bay and the heady cocktail of elation and relief and pride had quieted its song in his bloodstream, a strange sense of detachment had descended on him. Two weeks later, it still hasn’t lifted. Bradley feels like he’s been watching the world from behind a thick pane of frosted glass—everything muffled and faraway and just beyond his reach.
If anything, the nightmares are a relief, because at least they feel real.
Maybe it’s his mind trying to protect itself from the trauma. Maybe the bailout rattled his brain harder than anyone realised. Maybe, he thinks, letting his head fall to one side to catch a glimpse of the unfamiliar landscape peeking through the gap in the curtains, it’s just the surreality of everything that’s come after. Like ending up here, in Jake Seresin's childhood home.

(Jake gets another chance at the mission, and then another, and another. At a certain point they stop feeling like chances and more like foregone conclusions.)
