Frank paused, confused, and then shrugged a shoulder. “Uh - two minutes ago?”
“Have you touched anything since?”
“No. I mean, nothing besides you.”
“Alright. And - do you trust me?”
“Yeah, I trust you.”
“Um, can you - can I do something, and - and can you not laugh at me or be weirded out because I really need this and… and you offered, you remember, you offered to do what you could, no matter what?”
He nodded.
“You remember, Frank, you remember that you said that? You remember that you promised?”
“Yes,” he stressed. Really, what was the weirdest thing she could do? Recite all 118 elements of the periodic table? List all the books of the bible? Rap Hamilton at him really fast without breaking eye contact?
Take his hand and stick two of his fingers in her mouth?

Frank's a new man now, and he thinks things through, and while it burns inside his chest how much he wants Mel, he suspects the only reason he does is because he's telling himself he can't. It's just a whim, it'll pass in a few weeks.

Summary
It’s an awful day.
Mel doesn’t know exactly why she gets like this, but sometimes her senses are just dialed up to a thousand, and the fluorescent lights and frantic sounds of the E.D. make her want to vomit. (Well, they always a little bit make her want to vomit, but sometimes they make her actually pretty sure she’s going to have to run to the bathroom and vomit).
That’s bad enough, but then sometimes, she gets a patient who notices she’s a little off and wants to personally inform her of their feelings about it.

She cries on the bus after long shifts, straddling the line between trying to stop and trying to get it out so that she doesn’t ruin Becca’s night. She watches her coworkers pair up happily, full of inside jokes, and knows there’s no one waiting to catch up with her. And she gets up on bridges to see if she’ll actually do something about any of it."

“Not God,” she gasps now that her mouth isn’t preoccupied, “just me.”
“Goddess, then,” he mumbles, correcting himself."

He inhaled Iris’ scent, listened to the hissing and crackling of the fire. Watched as the flames danced and flickered, like a fiery ballet. Felt the thud of her heartbeat in tandem with his.
He didn’t want to let her go.

Mr. Terrific assured Lois in no uncertain terms that Clark was going to survive. That his healing was well underway, that the feverish confusion was normal, that with rest and relaxation, he would be fine.
But that was an hour ago. That was Clark-who-couldn’t-stand-up, sure, but he was still aware. Since then, his speech has deteriorated to confused muttering and his head has started lolling over like he can’t focus enough to keep it straight.
Lois glances over her shoulder again—never mind that she’s hurtling a hundred miles an hour through the air—she needs to see for herself that Clark is still alive. His swollen eyes are drifting shut again.
She just doesn’t believe he’s supposed to look like this.
