The letter from Antoine comes about two weeks after Rook had stumbled back through the eluvian with Davrin and Bellara — filthy, exhausted, exultant. Rook seems disinclined to go, right up until the postscript from Evka that Davrin reads aloud, with a few pointed glances up over the top of the paper: “I know you’re busy, and I’m not in any position to summon you, but seeing as we did go out to meet you in Arlathan, I’d say you owe us the return trip.”
(“Oh, that’s low,” Rook had said, sounding almost impressed.)
Which is how Lucanis finds himself seated on a wall in the Anderfels with a nine-year-old, watching the last Wardens get drunk in the mud.

Simple enough. Or it would be, if only the abductor in question wasn't Emmrich Volkarin and the wife in question, who goes by Rook now, wasn't terrified of going back to her husband.... and if only Lucanis hadn't been betrayed by one of his own.

This started as a fill for the DAK asking for Lucanis to have a contract on Emmrich before the start of the game. It derailed from there, and now it's a multichapters story that goes into the events of the game itself.
Will eventually be Lucanis/Emmrich/Rook.

Neve rolled the paper up and handed it to him. “I paid so you can carry them. Seems only fair.”
“Ah, now I see why you wanted the company. And here I thought you liked me.”
“What, a big strong warrior like yourself can’t handle a few papers?” She continued down the city streets, Rook following. She wanted to ask about Dorian and Maevaris, but she suspected Rook meant it when he said that wasn't a story he was willing to share just yet. “How did you join the Shadow Dragons?”

Lucanis thought—and he remembers this, he does, with a flash of acid up and through his throat as his grip solidifies around Rook’s dagger—that this food he was given couldn’t be poisoned. His captors wouldn’t. If they wanted to kill him, a knife to the throat would be so much quicker, and it wouldn’t ruin his flesh and blood.
The food hadn’t been poisoned. It had contained Spite.
The glamour on the deliquescent shred of meat dissolved the moment Lucanis let it pass his blistered lips. Then her hands had been on his mouth and on his nose, and he was so weakened, so enfeebled from simple neglect, he couldn’t overpower her. He could swallow or he could suffocate. Through visceral, muscle-clenching force she gave him his choice: acceptance, or annihilation.

An AU in which a De Riva Rook briefly met Lucanis before the events of DAtV.How much changes? That depends on how long it takes for Lucanis to decide it's okay to let himself have good memories. Also, maybe on Spite, because this demon he's made a bargain with seems increasingly interested in this strange, strong elf who's rescued them from a prison at the bottom of the sea....
