“He was aiming for you, Sejanus! What choice did I have?! You’ve got to get out, take the guns and get the hell out!” He hissed.
It wasn’t true. He hadn’t killed Spruce because he was aiming at Sejanus, he had killed the man because he was a loose end. Instinct took over and he did it. It was lucky that Sejanus had been too distracted by the dead bodies on the floor to recall anything with much clarity.

Sejanus struggles against Coriolanus’s grip on his wrist. When did he grab on? “They got what they deserved.” His voice, so sweet just moments ago, chills Sejanus to the bone. “Don’t go near their kind again. Stay here, with me.”

Put on the uniform, pick up the gun, leave your humanity at home. Polish your boots on the way out, wouldn’t want them to be dirty while you’re standing on people’s necks- you might make the Capitol look bad.

Coriolanus. His harbour, his shining light. How many times had he pulled him from the brink of despair?

Most of the time, though, Coryo doesn’t recognise him. When Sejanus crouches at his bedside, Coryo calls him Tigris, or Grandma’am, or sometimes (just a few times, when he’s deepest in delirium) Mama. On those days, Sejanus just holds him, soothing him to sleep with one of the few lullabies he remembers. He isn’t the best singer, and they probably aren’t the songs Coryo grew up with, but they seem to do the trick.

That time, Coryo had grabbed his face before he could pull away, silently directing him to continue.
Sometimes, when he’s feeling daring, he’ll slip down further, pressing soft kisses against Coryo’s neck, or his collarbone. If his lips brush the right spots, he can get Coryo to grab at his shoulders, pulling him closer in a wordless plea for more.

He just hopes the work won’t take him too far away from home. After all, that’s where Coryo will always be waiting for him, lying in his hospital bed.

Technically, they weren't from the Districts; as it turned out, they were a group of traveling musicians who got stuck in the Twelfth when inter-District travel was banned. This somehow reassured him – that she wasn't from the Districts, that he hadn't gone crazy falling for a girl from the Districts – she wasn't one of those responsible for the war. So he no longer felt guilty about his dreams, sometimes strange, sometimes blatantly indecent, in which she was always the main character.
18 years old Coriolanus Snow, an orphan, who lost his mother, his father and grandmother during the war now is a Cadet Peacekeeper in the District 12, preparing to become an officer. Here he meets the most beautiful girl in the world

You can probably read this on your own, but you really need to read the Chaos & Control fic to make sure you see how wide of a gulf there is between Coriolanus and Lucy Gray to make sure you feel the full impact by the end.
