Grindelwald hasn't encountered an Obscurial since the unfortunate incident with Ariana Dumbledore. Now he's found this boy, abused and innocent, who's willing to do anything for him. What better weapon against Albus than to send him a poignant reminder of the past? There is no one more fitting to win over Albus's trust and then betray him at the right moment.
