Summary
Baby’s just trying to stay awake but in this crew, even a nap can get you killed.
“You drooled on my jeans,” Buddy said after a moment, deadpan.
Baby’s eyes flicked to him, wide. Buddy smirked. “Relax. I’m kidding.”
Darling let out a soft laugh and twirled one of Baby’s curls around her finger. “Look at him. Sweet thing. How old are you again?”
Baby pulled out one earbud and mumbled, “Old enough.” His voice was rough with sleep, low and quiet.
“Mm-hm.” Darling smiled knowingly. “You’re still just a boy.”
“Boy drives better than most men I know,” Buddy said, tipping his head back against the couch. “Kid’s got ice in his veins when he needs it.”

Summary
Baby's always been his favorite.
It takes Doc a little time to figure out why.
And when he does, he's left wondering what the hell he's supposed to do about it.

Summary
The tapes are a constant. One after every job, maybe two or three if he feels like it. Recorded, stored, remixed. Some are more mundane than others. Most of the people on them are dead, others a staple in his life...until they aren't.
Baby doesn't mean to hoard them, he just like the sounds of their voices, how they distort into music. He never intended for them to be heard either.OR
A collection of the tapes Baby has, and the conversations he captures along the way, down to the very last job.

Summary
He tapped his index finger against the top of his jeans, head moving in a rhythmic twitching. He wasn’t aware of it, it was just something he did unconsciously. The next song had started; harsh guitar strumming filled his ears.
It was soothing. Violent in a way that pulled all the feelings in his chest out, letting him express himself internally. It’s what he liked about rock; you could get lost in the chaos.
“BABY!”
A voice yelling at him and fingers snapping in his field of view startled him out of his thoughts, out of the music he had pulled himself into. Baby blinked and looked up. Doc had walked over to him, a scowl present on his face.
“Baby, you with me?”
Baby nodded.
“Good. Coffee, go get it.”
The second verse started by the time he stepped into the elevator. He tried to ignore the feeling of obsidian, dark eyes staring at him as he walked away.

Summary
Doc blinks slowly. Once. Twice.
He’s lying, on the ground, face down against the floor. No walls or ceiling in sight, just dirt and something wet against his skin.
He reaches down near his stomach, touching it out of reflex, and his hand comes back drenched in red.
“..shit.”

Summary
Screaming. There was a lot of screaming. At least, he thinks that what that noise is.
He's breathing. At least, he thinks he is. It's hard to get air in his lungs from the way his face was plastered into the dirty concrete floor; haggard inhales and choked wheezing that makes him sound like he's been smoking a pack of cigarettes every day for the last fifty years.
And- wasn't he supposed to be doing something? Baby knows there's a piece missing in his mind because he can't remember what was going on prior to ten minutes ago, and he doesn't know why everything hurts-
And why can't get the taste of blood off of his tongue?

Summary
The pain was almost unbearable. Almost. Baby had been drilled for years to keep up a stone facade during any situation, even when faced with the possibility of death, but fuck it hurts.
(indefinite hiatus)The summery is more like its one last job for baby but he has to make a terrible decision, freedom but at what cost. This is more accurate for what has been written srry-

Summary
Doc has ten rules - ten rules that dictate his life, set out like gospel, more religiously significant than any book could ever be.
Baby follows them to a T. He lives them, breathes them, uses them as a guidebook on basic survival tactics. He never strays from the rules.
At least, most of the time.

Summary
Baby liked the quiet hum of the coffee shop, a small corner of peace hidden away on a small side street off the corner of the main avenue. It was around mid-afternoon when the man walked in - a sharp suit, and a perpetually displeased expression etched into his face.
"Black coffee. No sugar, no cream," the man said.
He thought about the man's eyes, how they constantly flicked over to him while he worked. It hadn't just been curiosity - it had felt like recognition.
But that was impossible. They'd never met. Had they?
Baby frowned, pushing the odd thought aside. He had other customers to deal with. No time to dwell on mysterious men who ordered black coffee and stared too long.

Summary
Doc found himself caught off guard more often than he’d like to admit.
He would see Baby staring at him, those steady eyes holding onto every word he said, looking past Doc’s orders, past the plans, memorizing his speech word for word in his head, like a dedicated broken record.
And sometimes, on rare occasions, he’d catch Baby glancing at him with a different kind of quiet, unwavering respect. Something softer, more thoughtful.
He had to admit it, in those moments, that Baby had settled into his mind, and Doc wasn’t sure how to get him out.

Summary
The aftermath of a heist was always the same. New crew, new job, same old shit.
Griff's voice cut through the noiseless air of the room like a particularly ragged blade. "Hey, Doc, what's the kid's deal, huh? He, uh, some kinda mute or somethin'?"
Baby almost laughed, but he didn't. Can't, even if he wanted to.
He just continued staring at the mismatched colors of the wall, his expression blank.

Summary
The man crouched slightly, bending over with his hands on his knees to peer at him a little closer.
"How old are you, huh?"
Miles' voice came out in a shaky whisper.
"T-ten."
The man rolled the number on his tongue casually, testing it out. "Ten. Well, you don't look it. You look like a damm baby." He pointed his finger at him, snapping it, as if deciding something with finality right on the spot.
"That's what I'll call you, then. Don't care what your real name is. You're Baby, now, got it?"

Summary
"When was the last time someone called you by your real name?"
The question lingered in the air, heavy and unexpected. His heart picked up speed, his mind racing.
Then, he heard it. Those short syllables that rolled off Doc's tongue in a way he hadn't expected, like Doc was testing it out, trying it on for size. Slow, but deliberate in its painful cadence.
Hearing it- it hurt more than he thought it would.
And he liked it more than he wanted to admit.

Summary
"I've got a job lined up," Doc began, his voice calm but decisive enough to tell Baby this wasn't up for debate.
"Europe," Doc said, sliding into a chair across from him, settling his clasped hands on the table.
Baby met his gaze, his eyes narrowing slightly. There was no hesitation in his voice when he spoke, just numb obedience.
"I'll go."

Summary
There's an indiscriminate point in time somewhere, at some point, in time that is, that he thinks he can understand the people around him. Then that moment, as brief as it is, passes into the unknowing, and he realizes that, no, he truly doesn't understand. And he might never.
So when he gets an unexpected knock on his door and finds Doc standing with his arms crossed over his chest just outside of that wooden barrier, he feels all of the fight drain out of his body. He's not mad, just resigned, as he leaned against the doorframe and their gazes meet.
"You're alive." He says, pointedly.
Doc shrugs a shoulder. Baby can see the slight grimace of pain that twitches onto his face as he does. "Sure." Is all he says.
