Vecna was dead. Hawkins had shuffled back into an uneasy quiet. El was gone. Mike had graduated alongside his best friends. Everyone was making the best of the wreckage, trying to begin their lives now that they were out from under the ever-present darkness that had haunted them for the last 7 years.
Nothing was… abnormal. In the sense that Vecna really was gone. The Upside Down vanquished for good.
The now-jagged piece of nail caught on Mike’s tongue and he scowled in the dark of his room. The alarm clock on his bedside table was tilted away from him so he couldn’t decipher the time. The red digital light glared off the wall. His pulse was still too fast. He felt sick. And alone.
In his vision, he’d been little. Small hands fumbling with an orangey yellow crayon. Everything was so visceral. He could smell the warm dust from the air vents of the living room he was settled in. The carpet was a little itchy under his soft, short legs. The room was familiar but distantly so. It was the Byers’ living room, but the furniture was different.

In other words, a hopeless love story of two childhood best friends who didn't realise what it meant to have each other until it was too late; compiled of yearning, loss, forlorn hope, unrequited love, and every tragedy in between.

When Carlos seeks his hero out to thank him, TK is going through a nuclear-bad breakup and back living with a father who is deeply affected by 9/11. But by letting Carlos into his life, maybe it’s TK who will feel himself falling.
Or: What if Carlos was the window washer that TK saved in the Pilot? And what if Judd was with Owen on 9/11?
Sometimes, he can feel the phantom bruise of the Narcan on his thigh, the light of himself blinking chaotically before snapping back on, how he’d sobbed against his terrified dad. But that’s not all there is anymore. He can still feel Carlos clinging to him as he was lifted to safety. He can still feel Carlos inside him, from nights ago, the angle he found, the way he moved. He can feel Carlos kissing his shoulder.
And after.
He can feel the after.
Lying at the foot of the bed, spent and breathless, the weight of Carlos’ sleepy head in his naked lap, TK running his fingers through his curls.
He can feel it all.

Reon froze. “T-Tendou?”

Tendou was notoriously hard to read, but Reon kind of figured that he wasn’t the type to be anything less than painfully overt with romantic affections.
“I... I don’t think you have anything to worry about. I think if Tendou was attracted to you, he would let you know,” Reon said. “I'd guess he just considers you his best friend.” He hoped his answer would satisfy whatever frenzy the guy had worked himself into so Reon could finally take advantage of his last precious hours of sleep.
But instead, Ushijima visibly deflated in front of him. “Yes. That’s what I thought too,” he said miserably.
