Summary
Miles Edgeworth would care to just have one week where he isn’t pulled from his prosecutorial duties or studies to do some ridiculous case. But alas, it seems mysteries is what follows him, even from continent to continent.
However, Miles, after five months abroad dealing with secrets, tragedies, and many kinds of new justice systems under his belt, settles down back in Japanifornia to enjoy the rest of the year in peace. The cold air that follows himself, the newly employed private investigator Kay Faraday, and recently promoted Chief Detective Gumshoe leads them all back together to be wrapped up in another conspiracy of an assassin's guild surrounding smuggled evidence, full of betrayal and unsettling truths!
But everything feels strange. Gumshoe is antsy about this new case, witnesses of wild proportions are throwing out accusations and lies, and a new mysterious man with ebony hair, serious eyes, and a hankering for jokes seems to be everywhere and nowhere. Kay and Miles find out more than they ever could predicted, especially about the new revelations of a long time dear friend of Edgeworth and the path Kay chooses to embark.

This time, Phoenix gets cut off by a bark. That's when Kay appears, wearing a cute Christmas sweater, a red skirt and black leggins. All of this coordinated with a hairband with bells and reindeer antlers.
And a dog in her arms, a small Papillon.

The smart, somewhat rational part of him comes to a pretty solid conclusion, this is how he dies, and his only witness will be Zak Gramarye’s portrait staring down at the grisly scene. And he can easily picture Edgeworth saying “I told you to let me get you those security devices for Christmas,” with his signature glare directed at his fresh corpse.
The other part of him that’s used to weird stuff happening in his life just adds it to the list.
“Hiya!” The girl perching on his couch waves cheerfully, like she belongs here, and didn’t just break in and isn’t eating—
“That’s my favorite cereal,” he says dumbly.
“I can see why, I can’t stop horking these down!”
“They’re seasonal,” Phoenix adds, “You didn’t even add milk.”

Wright leads her down the hall to a small and neat guest room with little signs of being used. There’s a set of clothes folded on the bed, and a modest wooden vanity against the wall. The carpet is soft and the whole apartment smells like a hodge-podge of mundane things, like the coffee that Wright must’ve been drinking earlier, hints of cologne, laundry detergent, take-out, and dish soap. As Kay looks around her, it feels so homey that it hits something in her chest and she finds herself blinking back tears. She hasn’t felt like this since her father…
She stops in her tracks, blinking furiously down at a patch of carpet. Her father’s been gone for years. She knows this, of course she knows it. It just feels a little different when you’ve looked into the eyes of the woman who had killed him and watched her laugh.

Set immediately after Turnabout Ablaze, Edgeworth finds out that Kay has been staying in a decrepit motel, all by herself. Kay spends a night at the Edgeworth-Wright apartment, grapples with the realization that she's finally caught her father's killer, and struggles to find a place where she belongs.
