So he storms right up to Ozai and tells him what he's going to do. And gets locked up for over three years. Then, one day, he's being pulled out and told he's the new Fire Lord.

    A "Zuko never meets the Gaang and suddenly becomes Fire Lord after three years of literal torture" AU. In which the Gaang doesn't know what to think of the new Fire Lord who happens to be the missing nephew of Aang's firebending teacher, Iroh constantly has a headache, and, sure, maybe the world hates the Fire Nation, but the Fire Nation LOVES Zuko, and he can work with that.

    Hakoda wasn't planning on gaining another kid after the failed invasion but here he is. He just wishes the kid would stop giving his crew heart attacks with his lack of survival instincts.

In der die Gaang nicht wissen, was sie von diesem neuen Feuerlord halten sollen, der zufällig der verschwundene Neffe von Aangs Feuerbändigerlehrer ist, versteht Iroh ein paar Dinge falsch und, klar, vielleicht hasst die Welt die Feuernation, aber die Feuernation LIEBT Zuko, und damit kann er leben.

    The letter is short. His eyes skim the scribbled mess on the parchment. He reads the five words over and over and over until his brain catches up with his vision.

    Zuko is alive.

    Zuko is assassinated. For a year, Sokka grieves his best friend and everything he never said, until Zuko appears right back where he died.
