"Buck," Eddie tests the name out. Buck. He likes that name. It sounds good, warm and safe and comfortingly familiar on his tongue. "You're my husband."
Buck's eyes widen, obviously surprised that Eddie remembered that. See, look? He's recovering remarkably quickly. He'll have his full memory back in no time.
"Your husband," Buck repeats and Chris, for some reason, starts giggling.
"My husband," Eddie agrees happily.

Eddie could feel himself flush, hating once again that his cheeks always showed his feelings. “I mean, you can,” he stuttered. “This doesn’t change anything—”
“Why do you always say that?” Buck snapped, pulling back. Another tear crested his waterline on the other side and he sniffled and swiped at it furiously with one hand. “That—that nothing will change. I tell you something life-changing and you assure me nothing will change,” Buck said, looking devastated. “I want things to change, Eddie. I want you to want things to change. I want you to want things, period.”

“Oh, we’d need several psychologists to unpack that,” said Hen. “Maybe an anthropologist, too.”
Next to her, Ravi grimaced and explained, “I said something stupid earlier, and now Buck has been flirting with Eddie all day, to drive us insane.”

Of course, it takes a few moments for him to realize that beyond this whole internal Mess (and yes, that’s in capital letters. Defining things as a demigod makes them a requirement) he’s figures out the reason for the Mist.
“Who the hell is that?” he asks, mostly so that he can finally put a name to the new Wrong that’s wormed its way into his life.
Buck doesn’t see it, he’s too busy staring at six-pack candyland to turn around, but he can hear the smile in Bobby’s voice as he says, “It’s Eddie Diaz. New recruit. Graduated top of his class just this week.” He goes on to talk about something else. Station Six. Dying to have him. All sorts of stuff that Buck just doesn’t want to listen to.
He’s a bit busy mulling over this scrap of information.
See, Buck officially has a Problem. A Mist using enigma of a Problem.
And his name is Eddie Diaz.

Summary
“Did you hear about the wolf attack on the full moon two years ago? That hiker found with his arm ripped to pieces,” Chimney says, an obvious ploy to cheer Buck up. It says a lot about Buck or a lot about Chimney that violent tragedy is meant to cheer Buck up. “Has anybody checked that guy to make sure he doesn’t go awoooo during his special time of the month?”
Eddie can already tell it’s not going to work, so he reaches across the gap between their seats to clasp a hand to Buck’s shoulder, his thumb close but not quite touching the vulnerable skin of his neck. If he presses hard enough, he can almost make himself feel the phantom ropes of raised skin from when Buck was left with a jagged lightning scar across his shoulder, matching yet way cooler than Eddie’s sad excuse for bullet dug and fang mauled shoulder scars. It has the desired effect, and he relaxes under the weight of Eddie’s hand.
“There are no wolves in Southern California,” Buck states, another bit of trivia. He just doesn’t know it’s a lie.
[Or Eddie has enough on his plate this summer – a newly empty nest, a terrible new captain, and a new mustache – without adding a new werewolf to the mix.]
