Summary
Steve and Robin’s friendship starts on a bathroom floor.
Or maybe it started before that. Maybe it started in that cold room where they were tied together and drugged. Maybe it started when Robin spat in a Russian soldier's face for threatening Steve. Maybe it started when Steve put all the attention on himself so the Russians would take him first and leave Robin alone. Maybe it started when they were being dragged to their certain doom. Maybe it started in that long hallway they walked for what must have been hours. Maybe it started when they were locked in that elevator for over a day. Or maybe it started before all of that.
However it started, Robin and Steve’s friendship was solidified on a cold bathroom floor.
What a way to start the best friendship in history.

"We're setting you up with a billet situation," Fletcher continued. "It's pretty common for first-year players, especially international guys. Gives you a chance to settle in, learn the city, have someone looking out for you."
"Okay," Ilya said slowly, not entirely sure what a billet was, but not wanting to admit his ignorance.
He could guess from the context – he’d heard of rookies being assigned to live with older single players, veterans who could show them the ropes. Maybe that was what Fletcher meant. Connors maybe, he was probably a handful of years older than Ilya. Or perhaps Becker. Ilya just hoped it was someone who–
"You'll be staying with Nikolai Petrov and his family."
The words hit Ilya like a punch to the gut. For a moment, he forgot how to breathe.
"Petrov?" he managed, his voice coming out strangled.

Summary
Steve and Eddie are close. The whole party knows that; it’s not a secret. But they’re close in the way they’re all close, right? The bonds of trauma, or something like that. They’re close like Steve and Robin are close, like Jonathan and Argyle are close, like Will and El are close.
Right?
Slowly, Will turns back around and peeks around the corner again.
Snippets of their conversation float over to him. Steve is adding chocolate chips to the batter and Eddie is leaning up against the counter next to him, one arm looped loosely around Steve’s waist, the other reaching into the bowl to steal chocolate chips and nibble on them.
Eddie rests his chin on Steve’s shoulder and hums. “Is this what it’s gonna be like when we have those six little Harringtons? You makin’ breakfast every morning?”
Or: Will wakes up early after a sleepover at the Harrington house. He sees something in the kitchen he wasn't meant to see, which prompts the realization that he might not be as alone as he thought.

He knew when Eddie was in middle school, friendless and angry and paranoid, when Wayne stumbled upon a stash of porno mags while he was looking for drugs.

He thinks of Eddie’s easygoing grin, his laugh. The way he puts his arm around Steve’s shoulders when they’re laughing together, the way he scratches Steve’s neck when his head hurts or whispers a reminder in his ear if he’s forgotten his train of thought. He thinks of Eddie’s stupid hilarious jokes and his wild hair and the way he calls Steve sweetheart.
Yes, Steve thinks miserably. Yes.

“Steve?” Eddie interrupts again. Steve casts a glance in his direction, but Eddie is looking past him at the television with hazy eyes.
“Yeah, I’m here.” Steve jostles his foot gently and gestures for the doctor to continue talking about fluid levels. By fluid, he’s pretty sure she just means blood. The blood that Eddie was coughing up, he figures. It had to go somewhere, so they must’ve drained it the same way they drained all the leaking air from Max’s lung. Maybe. He hopes Eddie’s uncle gets this stuff better than he does.
“Don’t you live in Loch Nora?” Eddie asks just as the doctor is opening her mouth to speak again. Steve builds up to a sigh, unsure how exactly to tell Eddie to shut up when it’s not even his fault that he can’t, before he realizes Eddie’s gaze is still glued to the TV.
