The egg shudders. The oddest fry that Philza has seen in his life bursts through. Easily ten times bigger than any that hatched in his pod, it doesn't have any scales, and is missing an entire set of fins. Those that it does have are sharp and hard, nothing like Philza's own.
But none of that matters the moment that he looks in the hatchling’s eyes. For the first time in forever there is something else in his heart but a gaping hole. It's like he wakes up from an unending nightmare and sees in aching clarity what he has known since he found the egg abandoned to the ocean’s mercy, much like he was.
This is his fry. His son.

Hacking away at the sternum of a dead corpse on Tubbo’s kitchen floor is not how Tommy imagined spending breakfast. Worse yet, Tubbo hadn’t even done him the courtesy of fully draining the body. No, bitch boy is currently sitting on top of the kitchen counter, drinking the unfortunate bastard’s blood from Tommy’s favorite travel mug.
Uncurling from his kneeled position above the body—after another unsuccessful stab—Tommy looks up at Tubbo and graces him with his opinion on this whole affair.
“Fuck you.”
Or, Tommy is one of the most powerful necromancers to ever exist; in a world of magical politics and intrigue, its both the best and the worst thing to happen to him.

Tommy is so busy staring at their catch that he barely registers when the sound of machinery cuts off. Yellow scales from a long, fish-shaped tail shine brilliantly under the deck lights. Blue lines curl up the sides, twisting and turning round in swirling patterns. It’s probably one of the most beautiful fish tails he’s ever seen, but the rest of the creature is what really has his attention.
Wide, panicked eyes stare into his own as the creature claws at its throat, chest heaving as it whines and writhes on the deck. It’s… human?
But the tail.

Wilbur perks up. “Does he ice skate?”
“Yeah, he does. He’s got these sick skates and everything.” Tubbo explains. “He’s quiet though. We tried talking to him, but…”
“But?”
Tubbo shrugs. "He's quiet. He doesn't talk much. I guess he's busy."

Tubbo’s- Tubbo’s here, or at least a version of him is, and goddammit Tommy missed him so fucking much. He hovers his mouse over the stream, biting his lip nervously, before taking the leap and joining it.
And fuck, Tubbo looks so similar that Tommy thinks he might cry again.
He doesn’t have horns, doesn’t have the long hair that covers half his face, doesn’t have the fucking awful scars that Tommy still hates himself for having let happen – but it’s still unmistakably him. His smile’s the same, he laughs the same – if a little brighter and less reserved – he brushes his hair back the same way and furrows his brows in concentration the same way and groans lightly in frustration the same way and-
It’s not him, but it’s still Tubbo, and Tommy can find himself loving this version of him already.

Summary
On indefinite hiatus/abandoned. It will be a long time before I feel ready to come back to this, but never say never!
When Tommy stops receiving letters from Wilbur, his elder brother who’s currently attending the L’Manburg Royal Academy of Music, he runs away from his sleepy hometown to go find him. But when Tommy arrives in Essem, the busy port city that houses the Academy, he finds that all is not right, and Wilbur is missing.
Tommy endeavours to find him, and ends up embarking upon a tumultuous and contradictory journey through Essem’s streets, his only clue being the letters his brother sent him.
“He’s my brother, you know?”
“Yeah, I get that, but why? Why go to all this effort?”
“Because he’s my brother! I don’t know how to explain it, but it’s not like, the whole blood thing. That doesn’t matter. Summary
The royal family of Antarctic empire isn’t exactly close.
Emperor Philza is always occupied; Tommy hasn’t seen Techno in months, and even if Wilbur is here, their relationship can be described to be strained at best.
The royal family doesn’t need to be close, however, it only needs to be balanced, like the pillars holding the country above their heads – as long as they are strong and steady, the Empire will be too. It’s the principle that held Tommy’s back straight and his shoulders broad through the years of hardships and trials of errors; through yet another formal meeting where his father’s gaze would look past him and where his brother’s words would be filled with poison that makes the deepest parts of his soul ache.
At that time, Tommy couldn't know that his family would find a replacement for him in the face of a commoner boy named Ranboo.
