Summary
Genya stood amongst a field of red spider lilies, their stems bowing like a crowd of quiet witnesses. The sunlight warmed his face in a way that made the moment feel absurdly ordinary. He knows at once where he is, and for an instant the world zoned on the river that faced him.
His mother had told him, long ago, whispered to him and his siblings like a warning within a lullaby— the old wives’ tale came back to him unbidden, the river that carried you across, the current that met you at the edge of everything. It had been said to him as a child, a thing to keep in the corner of the mind like a reminder. Now it felt less like a tale and more like a foretelling.
In which Genya dies in his brother's arms, a Hashira finds the merit in gun wielding and a meeting between demons prompt a change of heart. Not necessarily in that order.

Genya squeezes his eyes shut, then shouts back before he can overthink it. “None of my shoes fit!!!”
There’s a pause. A beat of silence that feels too long.
Then the closet door slides open.
Sanemi fills the doorway, broad shoulders blocking out the light for a moment. His eyes immediately drop to Genya sitting on the floor, then drift outward, taking in the chaos—heels scattered everywhere, pairs abandoned mid-argument, frustration practically radiating off the room.
Sanemi’s face twists, brows knitting together.
Genya’s chest tightens. He braces himself. He waits for the scolding. For Sanemi to finally see this growth spurt for what it is—not a blessing, not a miracle, but a curse that eats money and demands more and more. He waits for his brother to realize how expensive it all is. How inconvenient. How draining.
“So what?” Sanemi says instead. “We’ll just buy some new shit on the way over there.”
Genya blinks.
Of course. Of course that’s what Sanemi would say.
(Or: five times Sanemi spoils Genya with high heels and one time Genya uses his high heels to spoil Sanemi.)

Amane is an experienced Hybrid Rehabilitation specialist, but even with all her years and all the horrors, she wasn't prepared for the case of Genya Shinazugawa, a panther hybrid that they rescued from an awful abuse and neglect case.
"O-oh my god," Murata cried. He'd always been a nervous young man, though Amane couldn't blame him for the tremble in his voice in this situation. "I-is it al-alive?"
Amane followed his horrified gaze, eyes struggling to adjust to the low light. The only window in the room had been crudely boarded up, and the window itself had been plastered with old magazines and newspapers. The light from the hallway behind them was all they had to work with.
The room itself was destroyed. Bloody claw marks carved the far wall, shredding the wallpaper and exposing broken drywall and hints of pink insulation beneath.
And attached to the floor at the base of that wall sits a heavy plate of metal, screwed into the base of the wood. Her eyes followed the chain to its end, finding a small lump at the end.
If she thought it was hard to breathe before, it doesn't hold up to the weight that now settles on her chest, suffocating her

Genya has an unfamiliar feeling in his chest. It kind of feels like a swarm of butterflies stretching their wings in his stomach, which he used to feel around pretty girls like Mitsuri. Or like an aggressive blush spread across his face in embarrassment, as though his whole head is on fire.
To his displeasure, Genya’s brain is malfunctioning like he’s drunk and struggling to maintain his composure, his heart is thrashing like a gentle touch will rip right through him, and his emotions . . . well, he’s enraptured by her, an unexpected, all-consuming alchemy.
He would never feel this way for a demon. He especially would never feel this way for Tanjiro’s younger sister Nezuko—that’s somehow even worse.
Is he lying to himself? What’s wrong with him?

...this is a true belief by Genya Shinazugawa.
After returning from a mission that he'd had with Tanjirou, Zenitsu, Inosuke, Nezuko, and Kanao - something is slightly off with them. It could be that spending all that time together makes things brighter with Genya having friends. Or it could be that weird tasting drink that the villagers had given them as a thank-you for helping them deal with their problems - a kind, old lady handing it over with a wink.
Either way, Genya is really craving a watermelon.

“Because…” Genya hesitated, heart pounding in his chest as he held onto his already healing shoulder with his opposite hand. “You’re my brother.”
For a moment, Sanemi’s grin faltered. Something flickered in his eyes, something that resembled recognition, maybe even regret. Genya’s heart leapt- was there a chance? Could they turn Sanemi back, like they were trying with Nezuko? Could they bring Senemi back to the butterfly mansion? Could they make him remember his humanity?
But then Sanemi’s eyes darkened again, his smile returning, crueler this time.
“Brother, huh?” Sanemi stepped closer, looming over Genya, voice low and insidious. “Well, if that’s true… then why don’t you join me?”
Genya froze.
