Summary
He dreams of the end of the world. Of the war between Heaven and Hell. He dreams that he's standing on the road. Rage-fueled sparks fly from his clenched fists, and his wings stretch out, protecting the humans huddled behind him. He is the last one here who is standing for Earth and those who live on her. After all his years on her face, he will not let them take her without a fight.
And when he wakes, it takes a moment and his angel to dispel the dream.

“Captain,” Izzy said. Or gasped. It was hard to tell with the normal breathy quality of his voice. “A storm."
“I can feel that, Iz,” Edward said, grumpily. He lurched out of his chair, stumbling as the ship dipped forward. The dirty windows darkened as water covered them. All of the candle’s flames guttered, throwing the room into darkness. “There weren’t supposed to be storms.”
The clouds had told him so. Floating near the horizon in fluffy, soft lumps, the furthest thing from any storms.
“We’ve gone off course, captain,” Izzy said. The long-suffering tone of his voice was really very annoying. “We’re somewhere…different.”
That piqued Ed’s interest. “Different?” He ran a hand through his beard, the occasional tangle catching his fingers. “Different how?”
In which, Edward Teach's ship is blown off course and he is thrown overboard into unknown waters. There he meets creatures of myth and legend, and feels alive for the first time in a long, long time.

Summary
Stede Bonnet loves the ocean, the ships that cross in the distance, the waves that crash on the shore. From his perch in his lighthouse, he watches the sea below, the birds above, and ignores the shadows of large creatures lurking in the water. He is isolated, lonely, and content.

Steve could swear he sees a flash of hurt across Eddie’s face, but it’s gone before he can be sure.

But Hawkins, Hawkins has been looming over them for so damn long. One thing after the other, and it seems like it never ends and never stops. So they had talked, over a couple of beers, how neither of them had left the state except for a trip to Disneyland and one to Canada (Steve) and a trip to New York for a funeral (Eddie). And then they had joked how they should just take Eddie's van and go. And then they had thrown together their money, a pitiful pile of bills on Eddie's mattress. And then they had wrestled the mattress in the back of the van and thrown some clothes into bags.
And now, they are driving.
