“Ivan.”
The tall man turned, and a smile climbed onto his face. “Da, Frantsisk?”
Francis gestured vaguely down the hall. “It appears that we are the last two. If you would like to share… well… it would be nice not to be alone.”
For a second, something flickered in those violet eyes. Surprise, perhaps, or a deep weariness that mirrored his own. Then the smile returned. “That would be… nice. Da.”
“Parfait.” France turned, confident Russia would follow.

When a thunderstorm grounds all flights and traps the nations in England’s conference building, there is only enough rooms for pairs. Old alliances stick together and comfortable friendships claim their beds, until two men are left standing alone.

Lucas thinks that he’ll calm down once Eddie is back on his feet. Max thinks that he’s being a selfish little drama queen, but she doesn’t really have a leg to stand on when it comes to self-pitying bullshit, so she’s been biting her tongue.
“That doesn’t mean it’s okay to… talk to Steve like that. Like he’s stupid.”
“Well…” Max tries to joke, and El glares. “Sorry.”
“You were not helping.”

“Good morning, Sleeping Beauty,” Dustin snarks. He rolls his eyes and heaves himself out of the passenger side of the bimmer, slamming the door behind him. He sticks his head through the passenger window, offering Steve a sarcastic sneer. “Have a good nap?”
Steve smacks his lips and swallows hard, but the odd metallic taste doesn’t leave his mouth. Dustin huffs at his lack of response and smacks the flat of his palm against the side of the car. Usually, Steve would reprimand him for that, tell the kid something about the paint job, or dents, but Dustin storms out of Steve’s sight before he can catch up to the situation. Steve’s slumped over the steering wheel, letting it press into the side of his face and his ribs, a radiating ache, but he knows the moment he moves, the pain will flare into something sharp and unbearable.

I drive a loop around Hawkins and the lab twice a week. I made a new bat with nails and it stays in my trunk. My electric bill eats up a third of my salary because I sleep with the lights on in case they start flickering.
Somebody needs to stay back. Somebody needs to keep an eye on things. Somebody needs to make sure this never happens again.
