Incredibly, Steve rallies enough to spit in Eddie’s face.
‘Fucking eat me then,’ Steve chokes out.

“Last thing we know is that you were in love.”, Dustin went on, and Eddie could practically feel the poison rising in his throat like bile as he desperately attempted to swallow it down. “Suddenly, you’re acting like you’re strangers.”, he continued, and Eddie’s chest grew tight as he tried with all his might to stop all the pain from spewing out. “You never told us what happened between you two.”, Dustin finally said, and something cracked wide open in Eddie, setting him off once more.
“That’s the fucking problem! I don’t know what happened either!” Eddie snapped, his voice rough and pained as the words tore through his throat. That’s what it all came down to in the end. Even after three months, Eddie still didn’t understand what the fuck had happened between Steve and him. It was driving him insane.

Robin is their exasperated emotional support lesbian who just can't believe how useless these idiots in love are. Lots of pining and misread signals ensue.
