"Truthfully, I don't care if I graduate here, really. I'd never heard of Tōtsuki before a couple of months ago, and I'm sure that whatever I learn here, I could have learned from somewhere else. This school is just a place my journey as a chef led me to, and I'm sure there are bigger and better places after it.
"My goal is to make my restaurant excellent. I don't care about any of you. I don't care if you have some sort of squabble with me. All I care about is leaving this school bringing honor to the Aldini name. For now, that does mean being first in the class, and I'll make it there."
There was an awkwardly long silence.
Takumi took an uncertain step back and bowed stiffly to the audience. "I wish you all luck in the coming years." He walked off to a sudden chorus of jeers and outraged screams.
Offstage, he ran into Megumi waiting patiently for Sōma to stop laughing hysterically.

“Izuku,” she says calmly, “why are there two U.A. students in my office?”
The bottom falls out of Momo’s stomach. She exchanges a horrified look with Itsuka.
Midoriya— Izuku— seems unfazed. If anything, they seem delighted by her reaction. “I intercepted Nedzu’s phone call to you and agreed on your behalf!” they say cheerfully. “I know you were considering sending offers to the first-year students after the Sports Festival ended and ran out of time, so when the opportunity knocked, I greeted it at the door!” They grin at her. “How’d I do?”
If anything, this exasperates Ryukyu further. “Izuku, we didn’t send any offers to students in the heroics course this year because you’re here.”
“As a management intern. Not as the incoming future of heroics, soaring into the sky!” They pause before flipping through their clipboard to a clean page. “Ooh, that’d be a good tagline for Hawks, don’t you think? How much do you think I could sell it to him for?”

is it strange to call this fic comforting? perhaps. but there's something incredibly compelling to someone forcing themself to live through the tragedy of life despite it all, i guess. the tonal shift from complete despair into almost a forced resignation is incredibly interesting to read, and i've been enjoying watching it almost accelerate to the end.

i love a lot of daylightbreaks's work and find myself rereading their fics a lot but this one in particular is really good at balancing the original work's tone with the changes they've made to the plot; i think fic writers tend to get sucked into their particular world/retelling (i'm not immune to this) but there's a certain skill in still making a fic recognizably associated w the property it's based on and not turning it into something that's two shades off of being original work. this fic feels so much like if horikoshi decided bnha was going to be a mafia/yakuza story and i think that's why i keep revisiting it :)
