His hand was suddenly ripped from her mouth, and she held it forcefully as she interrupted his rambling speech. “My boundaries? What do you mean?”
Donning a similarly perplexed expression, he replied, “The parameters you set regarding our relationship.”
“Parameters? I haven’t set any parameters, Chakotay. I have no idea what you’re talking about!”
“You… Parameters… New Earth…” Tiny beads of sweat began to form along his hairline as he stood there, still blocking her from exiting the bath, with one hand holding hers and the other now gripping her arm tightly.

Summary
Chakotay walks into the Mess Hall a little past 0400, a determined but cautious gait in his step. The room is darkened from its supposed lack of use, and a few streamers still hang lazily along the bar from the confetti bursts hours earlier. He even spies the odd champagne glass or two lingering on the tables, but knows this will all be spotless before the breakfast rush begins so he isn’t concerned. What he is concerned about, however, is the huddled mass on the couch in the corner, and the mostly empty bottle of whiskey sitting on the floor beside it.

He watched several emotions flitter across her face at his response, before it settled carefully back into its frustratingly neutral countenance. It wasn’t a look he was personally accustomed to receiving until recently, and the reason why gnawed at him. But he wasn’t solely responsible for their deterioration as of late, and knew that if they had a chance of recovering their friendship or anything else, they’d have to talk despite how much he wanted to avoid it.
