John tries for a smile, but it feels weak and forced- like a grimace. Everything hurts. But as the room descends into a slightly more permanent silence, he chooses not to focus on that. Summary
Ever since the events of his fourth year, Harry Potter has been drowning. He’d already been struggling for years, and a mixture of fresh trauma, mounting pressure, and disturbing nightmares is pushing him closer and closer to the edge.
His friends see him falling apart more and more, but they’re powerless to help him. The adults in his life are willing to turn a blind eye to his ever-increasing issues, so long as they’re able to maintain their idea of a savior and keep their plans in place.When Harry Potter arrived at Hogwarts, Severus Snape's life became exponentially harder as he tried to field threats against a boy he didn’t even like and take up spy work again at the same time. With the return of the Dark Lord, Severus also suddenly had to work to protect his godson from the threat looming over them; if Draco fell into the Dark Lord’s hands like his father, he would never escape.
Severus is content to allow the obvious problems rising in Potter to be addressed by the boy’s other teachers, and the people who cared for him. However, as more issues arose and intensified, one thing became obvious: Severus may be the only person with both the power to help Potter, and the will to do so. -

“Boy!” Vernon’s voice snapped Harry out of his thoughts. He looked up to see his uncle glaring at him. “Are you even listening?”
“Yes, Uncle Vernon,” Harry muttered, quickly averting his eyes.
Vernon grunted, satisfied, and turned back to his meal. But Harry kept sneaking glances at Petunia, her silence speaking louder than any of Vernon’s rants ever could.
For the first time, Harry wondered if she was trapped too.
When the wards fail after an incident, Harry is cast out of the Dursleys and into the reluctant care of Professor Snape. Silent and spiraling, Harry discovers an unsettling power within him. With a growing Dark Lord, Malfoy under the same roof, and secrets simmering, healing might not be enough to save them.

Harry wanted to tell Snape that he was a freak and freaks don't get touched like this. Snape was making a mistake and Harry felt guilty, like maybe he had accidentally tricked Snape into being nice. Just like how he tricked the wizarding world into thinking he was somehow capable of being some savior, even though he couldn’t defend himself against his muggle uncle. -

But I can’t stop it. I need this!” he pleaded with the man to understand. One person, there had to be one bloody person in this stupid castle who understood. This was the only way he could function - and he had to function because he could not let anybody else die or be harmed in any way.

Throw in their best friends (a dormant psychic who wants nothing to do with the supernatural, and a regular guy who wants everything to do with the supernatural), a woman across the hall who has more baggage than baggage claim (a powerful witch with powerful secrets), her husband, who is just—insane, and her husband's BFF, who is also a nut in the crackhouse, and what do you get?
