Usopp heard a chuckle, and what he saw became warmer. Like the way someone’s face lit up because something made them happy. Usopp could not have evoked that feeling.
He could see through his father’s eyes it seemed.“Finally noticed, you little knucklehead?”
The 17-year-old swallowed loudly. He did not know whether to laugh or cry. He finally got to talk to his old man and yet he was amid a fight with a fish man who could turn him into human gumbo. Usopp’s legs were jelly at this point because they shook so bad and he had been running so far and so much.
“Wh- who are you?” he asked aloud. “You aren’t going to help—”
“I’m not going to help you lose,” the older man said. “I’m going to help you win.”
“Wh- why?”
“I am your father.”
Otherwise, Usopp and Yasopp could always see through each other’s eyes. And maybe, just maybe, Red Hair’s sniper isn’t such a deadbeat dad. Twilight meets the center, after all.
