Aside from the financial purposes, marriage also served a few other practical purposes. Power of attorney, a recognized social commitment that would officially take him off the market at galas, getting rid of Lois' shrewd stares right before she asked when one of them would pop the question.
Bruce could admit though, that the best reason to get married was that Clark wanted it.

Summary
Preening was the most intimate ritual in avian cultures. Done only by family and partners, it was more than simple hygiene for avians. It was a gesture of trust and love. There were very specific customs about where they were done, what words were spoken to cue the ritual, and who could do it. Traditions varied slightly, but the core concepts remained the same. Among avians, requests to preen and be preened were expected to be semi-frequent, in order to maintain the deep bonds that avians kept with each other.
Or, 5 times Bruce preens his birds and 1 time they preen him.

Summary
Despite Bruce's innate lack of goodness – the way he knew that if someone were to peer next to his heart where his soul lay and they would find nothing but a gnarled, black pit – Clark had never been anything but kind. Bruce wanted to be good for Clark, to be able to look anyone in the eyes and say that they made each other better. Bruce wasn't a pity project, a moral charity case for Clark to take a fancy too. He could be someone worth loving, if he could only move past the coiled fear in his gut.
Which found Bruce taking the elevator up to the seventh floor of the Daily Planet's headquarters, to the bullpen where he knew Clark worked.

Summary
Fondness for Bruce bloomed in Tim's chest. He mustered a small smile. "Thanks, Dad. I'll really- it'll be fine. I want to see him."
"I know you do," Bruce said with warm eyes, "But don't hurt yourself in the process."
A statement that was almost laughable, given how long this family had been putting their lives and bodies on the line in the pursuit of hope in a better future. But it was said with such immutability, like it was inevitable. Bruce would make it true somehow, that Tim didn't hurt himself here and now. It was that unspoken faith between them that prompted Tim to push open the door.

Summary
This was not what Clark had heard. This was not what Clark was prepared for. He’d braced himself for someone unreasonable and glib, charismatic but ultimately with no depth. The man standing in front of him was— Clark wasn’t sure what he was. But it was not that.
“You,” he ventured, “love this city very much, don’t you?”
Wayne didn’t tear his eyes away from the skyline, seemingly contemplating something.
“I do,” he said finally, then turned back to Clark. “Mr Kent. Do I know you?”
and so this is how one spell, gone wrong, leads to Superman's and Batman's memories being erased, which then leads to Clark and Bruce tumbling headfirst into a friends with benefits situation, which then spirals even more rapidly from there.
