CC-2224 is a good soldier. Good soldiers follow orders. This is the way things go. Except there's a prisoner with his name in her mouth, and a droid, and a target whose face he cannot remember, and everything's sort of going to shit. It's fine. Everything's fine. He's probably going die very soon, and he does not particularly want to die, but dying is the purpose of his whole life; inexorable and necessary as a sun going supernova. This is, after all, what he was made to do. He just has to remember that.

He settled back onto his haunches, a sharp, cruel light that Merlin recognised entering his gaze, the prelude to some terrible gotcha. "When did you decide that you were okay with chipping your humanity away, piece by piece? When did you stop being kind?"
"Oh, I don't know," Merlin drawled, swallowing down the little burrs of guilt that threatened to catch in his throat and stick painfully. This was not the gotcha that Mordred thought it was going to be. Well, actually it was, but Merlin had an even bigger gotcha, which cancelled Mordred's out. "I think it was around the time you killed my best friend."

Summary
Fox wakes up face-down in a pile of flimsi with his hair in his mouth. This in itself is not particularly unusual, because he’s been sleeping at his desk for the last—five months? Six months? He doesn’t care enough to recall. Whatever. Point is, it’s been a long fucking time since he’s bothered to drag himself into his bunk. His steel desk chair is comfortable enough to while away the four hours he has between finishing paperwork and starting his first shift.
(This is a lie so fucking big it beggars belief. Fox’s steel desk chair is the stuff of children’s nightmares and one day, if the war ever ends—if he lives that long—he’s going to take a great amount of pleasure in attaching several detonators to it and throwing it in the Supreme Chancellor's ornamental lake.)

His lungs shudder as he breathes in, hands gripping his face, his shoulders, alternating wherever they could.
“That’s it- that’s it, come on, come back to me-”
He feels dizzy, out of it, the way he always did. He’s pulled into a chest, a heartbeat he could spend forever memorizing, and tries to get his bearings.
Or, Will is going through some shit. He knows a way to get out of it, but... no one seems content to let that happen.

The reaction is immediate and merciless. Dustin makes a dramatic gagging noise. El gasps like she’s been handed gossip gold. Lucas high-fives Max, shaking her hand in his.
Mike doesn’t say anything. He just watches Will, watches the way he shrugs it off, the way he laughs a little too loud, the way his ears go red.
Or, Will's new boyfriend is a bad kisser. Mike thinks it's a crime that no one has kissed Will properly. He's on a goal to change that, Carlton be damned.

Will moves back to an upright position, wiping his hair out of his eyes, head and shoulders peeking above the water. “Mike,” he says, pulling Mike up with him, their fingers still intertwined.
“Yeah?” Mike says, tilting his head so the water trickles out of his ears, wincing slightly. “What is it?”
Will’s eyes dart back and forth between his, and then Mike feels his hand squeeze his own. “I don’t want you to, like, think I moved back for you,” he starts, which in and of itself would be enough to get Mike’s soul soaring straight out of his own body, if it weren’t for Will’s thumb pressed against his pulse point like some kind of mortal tether. “Because it’s not like that, I promise. But I think– I think I realized there’s a difference between things you want and things you need, you know?”
