Ray knocked lightly on the door, but turned the handle and stepped inside before he could hear a response.
The breath caught in his throat.
For a split second, he couldn’t make sense of what he was looking at. Just movement and the gleam of lamplight on pale, sweat-sheened skin. Then his brain caught up.
Dr. Parker was in the lab, but he wasn’t alone.
Or Ray, a nurse practitioner working his first season at a new research station in Antarctica, sees something he wasn't meant to see.
