    Tim Drake never actually wanted to become part of the Robin-Batman-vigilante outfit. No, really. But the last Robin up and died, and now Batman is going crazy, and no one else is doing anything about it, so...Tim decides to become Robin. He might as well, right? At the very least it'll give him something to do while his parents are gone.

    Still, Tim's not taking up the mantle until he can put a couple of things in order. Step one? Making sure the Joker can't get it into his head to kill another Robin. Not ever again. (Good thing Tim's not the one with a 'no killing' rule.)

    And then after that? Well, after that it's only just a matter of keeping Batman from learning Tim's identity and subsequently chasing him off. Not until Bruce can get back on his feet and pick a new Robin, a real one this time. Easy-peasy.

    Summary

    Bruce Wayne trained his soldiers to be ruthless. Efficient. Deadly. Observant. Detached. Anything better to make them like him: irrelevant to death and loyal to the Mission to cull the weak.

    Like almost everything in Bruce's life, it didn't work.

    The first grew too soon, the flashiness of his younger days and his lust for the artistic dance of blood and gore a stubborn knot.

    The second had the blessings of Minerva, well-oiled like the best piston. However, she was not looking to be under a shadow. There were no chains of steel or electrum to hold her back.

    The third was a failure. Time gone, assets turned a liability. It was foolish to hope that eyes widened too soon would harden into a weapon. Wouldn't turn into something darker than the shadows. It was quite the opposite.

    The there was the Drake. Feral, wild, dangerous, ready and, worse of all, free. Do not let innocence fool what lays behind cold hearted eyes.

    Then there are the strings in the background, plots against him.

    Owlman will not lose. Not now, not ever, and not to a bunch of prepubicent high schoolers.

    Gotham had different ideas.

    But when he wakes up in his time, just a year after the Graysons death and appearance of the first Robin.
    Tim wouldnt let his family suffer again, even if it meant he couldnt join them.

    Bruce Wayne is not "Brucie Wayne"
    Tim Drake is not "Timothy Drake"

    They are both personas, a front to prevent people from looking at whats really under the surface. But sooner or later Tim should have known Gotham being a city of secrets, nothing stays buried forever. Especially not when the bats get involved with their trashy next door neighbor whose behavior seems more and more contriditory.

    Tim had saved them all more times than he could count, maybe this time they could return the favor.

    Tim closes his eyes, calculating. Based on the energy involved for a one week reset, he’s looking at a minimum displacement of about five years for the copy. His eyes sting as he fully grasps that if this works, one Tim will get to reunite with his friends and family, hold them and speak to them again, and work together to unleash all the contingencies and strategies he’s come up with to kick those invading alien assholes the fuck out, and the other Tim, the copy… won’t. He’ll wake up somewhen, isolated and traumatized, without friends, family, or any allies at all.

    Well, shit. Whatever, at least Other Tim will know it worked. And he’s never minded the idea of sacrificing himself to save others. He confirms the calibration of the device, and pushes the big red button. Of fucking course there’s a big red button, supervillains are so predictable.

    His last thought as the lights explode in his head and he tastes color is I hope computers are a thing whenever Other Tim lands. I’d hate to be put on trial for witchcraft. Fuck it, if I overshoot I’m gonna ride a goddamn dinosaur. Hell. Yes.

    Tim wakes up in the Cave and opens his eyes. He glances around, his heart seizing at what he sees. The cup of coffee Alfred set at his elbow earlier is gone. Based on the undisturbed layer of dust which blankets the surface of the desk, it looks like it was never there in the first place.

    “No,” he whispers, throat tightening. This isn’t right.

    The feeling that he is somewhere else, somewhere he isn’t supposed to be, grows exponentially as he takes in a hundred tiny differences in his surroundings, from the level of the Batcomputer tech to the contours of the chair he’s sitting in. This wasn’t supposed to happen.

    He realizes with a growing sense of horror that if he’s fallen into a new universe again—this time without the impetus of having recently activated the device—then there’s no guarantee it won’t happen again. And again.

    Oh, god.

    Is it the absolute dumbest idea to celebrate the anniversary of Jason stealing the Batmobile’s tires by trying to steal them himself? Absolutely. Is Tim going to do it anyway? Hell yeah.

     

    or: An eleven-year-old Tim is obsessed with cars, like most kids his age, so he does the logical thing and steals the Batmobile's tires (and eventually the whole car). This leads Bruce through the five stages of grief: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, and Adoption.

    This is my Febuwhump 2025 story. Let's go! 28 chapters of whump, hurt/comfort, fluff, a tiny bit of angst, and lots of humor. Every chapter is a different prompt. This story is heavier on the humor than the whump, but it definitely gets dark at times :)

    Luckily, it was just a cave system that spans the entire Gotham underground. Unluckily, Tim is a very curious child.

    TLDR: Tim gets rescued by Bruce from the YJ universe and he isn't used to people caring about his existence.

    The thing is, Tim wasn’t himself when he was looking for Bruce. In his grief, Tim was Red Robin, and Red Robin was built for solitude. Red Robin crossed lines that Tim Drake wouldn’t even tiptoe on. He was detached and gray and everything Tim had tried not to be as Robin. But now that Bruce is back, and Damian is Robin, and nobody really knows what he’s done- Red Robin is all he has left. And Red Robin was built for solitude.

     

    There’s something wrong with Tim. The Tim Jason knew was poised, snarky, arrogant. A stubborn-as-shit asshole. And, of course, so loyal and committed to the Bat-legacy that Jason wasn’t really sure if the kid had any hobbies outside the suit. This new Tim, this Red Robin, is someone else entirely. Someone who’s one reckless crusade away from getting himself killed.

    And Jason has a few things to say about dead Robins, Red or not.

    Or: After Bruce returns from the time stream, Tim Drake keeps the mantle of Red Robin and throws himself into international cases to avoid going home. Jason runs into him, gets a bad feeling, and follows him to the ends of the earth (literally).
