The chorus of birds faded as the hours ticked by, overtaken by the creak of branches in the wind. The three of them had settled into reading side by side in camp chairs beside the evaporator, just close enough to enjoy its heat. The chickens mostly stayed around the driveway, scratching up leaves to check for bugs, though one occasionally strayed closer for affection and to double check for any snacks they might have.
Lois set her book on her thigh and watched the steam as it rose. She squeezed Clark’s hand, crossed her legs the other way and then the other and back again. Her foot found a log and tapped it so it rolled back and forth with a satisfying thunk.
It had been about two hours.
And it was nice.
It was quiet, in that spectacularly loud way of a forest. The breeze sang through skeletal limbs of trees as it carried a chorus of peepers from a marsh tucked somewhere behind a hill. Clark had been perched in the rickety camp chair beside her for almost an hour without speeding off, which was a rarity in Metropolis. Jimmy was right beside him, his nose tucked into one of the ancient books from his aunt’s shelves. -

Drifter wasn't sure what they were thinking when they made that split second decision, but they'll make sure they don't regret it. They've known these misfits for 24 hours and they'll do everything in their power to let them live.
Chapters will release on Mondays and Fridays so I can have some consistency, and I'm mad that I have to state this but no AI was used in the writing of this work. I just have a lot of thoughts and busy hands lol.

Ballas was a menace to the entire system. His rule with an iron Fist while commanding Narmer and veiling everyone was a traumatic experience. But ever since the end of the New War, Grineer and Corpus have been fighting over what remains of Narmer's former glory, as those still veiled remaining regroup under their lost Martyr.
But recently, Grineer have gotten intel that somewhere out there is a facility in the Veil Proxima sector, and the Grineer plans to take any riches that are inside. Unfortunately for them, a Narmer fleet is protecting the facility, with special directives given by Ballas before his death. Even worse, the Corpus has also gotten the same intel.
Eventually the 3 forces clashing in the Veil Proxima for the facility is inevitable. But deep in that facility, their fighting will destroy the power system and awaken a project that was locked away by Ballas for a personal reason. A full-fledged Prime Warframe once Sentient, but not Archon. And they...have ties to the past of Tau...

Never, in all his Spirals, had the Drifter ever found Humor. Maybe the Orokin author of his favorite "Tales of Duviri" storybook simply didn't appreciate the art of a good joke. Maybe he was, as Teshin often said with that wry smile, merely a sarcastic little shit.
For the first time in centuries, he smiled so broadly his cheeks hurt.
Maybe some of Mathila's mad happiness was rubbing off on him after all, because despite dying day after day in futile attempts to leave, now that he finally could, he wanted to stay and make his make-believe kingdom a better place.

Lucifer’s eyebrows went up as he showed the phone to Alastor. He scrolled through a massive amount of pictures Jubilee had sent him. Most of them were of their daughter Eve hanging off of Vox’s arm, or going to parks with him, or having a spirited water balloon fight. Alastor’s eyebrows went up too.
One message from Jubilee said simply, “Eve’s got a third dad now, heads up.”
Lucifer and Alastor shared a look.

Horrible creaking noises shot out all around them as the very trees grew hands of bark and hardwood, grabbing Alastor and pressing him down to the soft turf. He whined pitifully as he tried to escape, the trees gripping him harder and harder.
Lucifer looked down at his massive face haughtily. “I’ll make an appointment. Try to be sober for that one.”
