Summary
There are two Stanleys before Narrator. One real, the other a shapeshifter impersonating him, and he has to pick which one to shoot. How cliche. It's an easy move to shoot, too, with nothing to lose even if he hits the wrong one.
His finger freezes on the trigger anyway, looking into the terrified eyes of something that looks just like his partner in crime. This should be easy, but that knowledge doesn't make it any easier.
With a bonus chapter: What if Stanley did something about it before Narrator did?

Summary
When I was a kid, I came up with an overarching story of all the Pokemon games I had played, connecting them together and working in all of my many Pokemon.
I never did write it, and it's practically unrecognizable by now - but I did write a whole lot of references to it. So, I elected to compile them into a series, in roughly the order of the story events that they reference.

Summary
After the conclusion of the Parable, Stanley and the Narrator were spat out into new bodies and new lives - with a twist. Their world features soulmate bonds, allowing each person to know where the other/s is at all times and creating a tension that mounts whenever they get close and don't meet.
Neither of them handles this well, but there are a few ways it could have gone.

Summary
Almost everyone has at least one timer on their wrist or arm, counting down to the moment they meet their soulmate. Sometimes the timer is for a platonic relationship, sometimes a romantic one. Some have many, some have none, and some bonds appear only on one of the bonded people's arms.
Some of these timers, as it happens, are long - longer than it seems anyone could ever live. But a new world will offer those long-waiting individuals new chances at finding their match and making a happier life for themselves.

Philippe watches as the streams of water carry away the soap from Corbeau's skin. His tattoos are revealed once more, an awe-inspiring tableau of ink on a canvas so rarely uncovered. How far Philippe has come in his skill, he considers, to have laid a hand on Corbeau in harm. How far they have come in their bond, to lay his hands now in such open, naked, trusting care.
"I used to think you were untouchable," Philippe murmurs aloud.
"Nobody is," comes the knowing response. Corbeau turns to meet that softened silvery gaze, a smile behind his hand dutifully pinching his injured nose. "For better and for worse."

In order to kill two birds with one stone, Dirk has locked himself and Jake inside a meta-narrative construct so he can achieve two goals: killing his ex and ensuring that his story can continue without end for eternity. The problem is that he must rely on himself to follow that path in the woods and slay his ex- without deviating from his plans. He has no idea that this is a love story.
