Piper and Dylan shared a “we are so talking about this later” look.
“So are you like…” Piper said, regretting the words as they left her mouth. She stumbled for an even slightly okay phrasing. Dylan stared at her, appalled. “... together, then?”

As he nears he is pleased to see Hob standing outside, in front of the Inn. Upon closer examination however, it would be more specific to say that Hob is standing in front of an ancient black Bentley, that is parked in front of the New Inn, while twirling the keys and smirking in Dream’s general direction. Dream feels himself light up from within. On the outside, this manifests as the slightest twinge of a smile.
“Dream my friend! This is fantastic timing, duck. Care for a drive?”
Dream’s eyes narrow. “What is that monstrosity?”

Dream is finally settling into the new century, with the help of his dearest friend. As he tries to re-engage with humanity, he is also realizing that his feelings for Hob Gadling might run a bit deeper. These feelings come to a head during a road trip in which an apparently bewitched car radio keeps playing the most apt songs, each of which seems to somehow feature dreams, nightmares, and hidden feelings quite prominently.Bookmarked by Jaderose

Attraction to Dream of the Endless comes to Hob in a form of a slow, simmering fire. At times it burns brighter, other times it calms until it’s barely noticeable. It never goes away fully, partially because Hob doesn’t want it to.
His companion is the embodiment of hope and dreaming. It would be sacrilege to give up hope in being wanted by him.

Death comes for a raven, and finds her brother. He doesn't ask her for help, but prevents her possible entrapment, so she finds Hob Gadling and suggests he do something about the situation at hand.
Cue a one man resque mission in 1926, which leads to dozens of years of platonic, yet vaguely romantic dating both in the waking world and in the Dreaming.Now with illustrations in the second chapter!

Hob is a patient man, and Dream is a stubborn one. Or a stubborn something, considering Hob still doesn't quite understand what exactly he is. In fact, there isn't much he does know about his stranger, and even less about his stranger's family -- so Hob certainly hadn't expected his friend's sister to waltz on into The New Inn asking if he had any apples and telling him that she was in town for work that "luckily" didn't involve him.
And, naturally, he also hadn't seen it coming when she told him that his stranger needed his help. But if Hob had learned anything in his unnaturally long life, it was that things never went quite how you were expecting them to -- and sometimes you wound up breaking into a rich magician's basement to get your friend back.
